Yesterday was a 3rd Sunday of the month, so we had Benediction after Mass.

"...and some people thought their Faith would be better nourished and preserved by red-lighting this Benediction and staying home alone."

I wish the video could capture the smells of the event. We have this incense that's 100% "translucent light yellow granules". I believe he said it's lemongrass-infused frankincense. It's very sweet smelling -- a very classic Catholic scent.

When I smell it, I instinctively want to sing "O Salutaris Hostia". I guess it comes from YEARS of Benedictions after every Mass at the independent chapel I attended for 2 decades. And when I hear "O Salutaris Hostia", I can almost smell the incense...hahaha

Here is a picture of the kind I was able to find -- it is very good as well. But the kind we're using now was donated; I don't know where to get more. But it's the best incense I've ever smelled.

Father had a monstrance with him last month, but didn't have one this time. I guess it belongs to his chapel in CT. It's probably not the easiest thing to transport. And who wants to get something like that stolen from your car!

Fortunately I just purchased a ciborium (thanks to some donations) so Father could at least use that during Benediction as well as Mass. I'll share a secret with you: it wasn't nearly as expensive as you might guess.

  • I forgot to attach the picture of the incense.

This is the kind to get -- the small granules, which I affectionately compare to the candy Nerds.

Actually, that comparison goes back to when I was a child -- my best friend/cousin, who also served Mass with me all the time, made that comparison, and it made a lot of sense so it "stuck".

Anyhow, be careful about some Catholic incense you buy online. I bought some from Autom, the picture looked like the one above, but it was TOTALLY different. It didn't even smell the same. They are more like small rocks than granules, and they "melt" and leave big black carbon lumps on your charcoal. Hard to use.

I won't buy any more unless I can call them up and say, "Go grab a box of the incense. Look inside. Excuse the term, but does it look like candy Nerds?" If they say "Yes", then I'll purchase it.

If those "rocks" were yellowish then it is likely that they were pure frankinscense.
