one person, A is the victim of a violent storm and massive flooding, loses everything

the other person B is the victim of another kind of storm, a storm that involves: abusive people in that person's life
an inability to cope, PTSD... no support system, loses everything

so

A

or

B or

both

  • Both are our neighbour and in need, therefore, both should be helped.

  • Yes. Both need help.

However, a Christian turns to God in difficult times.

There are too many people abusing the government help.

May God bless you and keep you

  • Neither, presuming "the Government" every really does or can help anyone, and depending on what is meant by both "The government" and "help"

    "Check's in the mail!"
"Of COURSE I'll still respect you!"
"Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."
    "Ah did not inhale!"
    "Lord, have mercy".

  • In a perfect world, there would not be government assistance. But much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, it is not a perfect world. I know... hard to deal w/ that truth but truth just the same

I just don't get it why we should have massive sympathy and empathy for the Harvey victims but NOT for those who have experienced OTHER kinds of disasters. I know someone who was very neglected/abused as a child, was very messed up as a result, and (BIG SURPRISE) got involved with bad people... got rather "mental" b/c of all that, PTSD and other stuff... wants to work but has a hard time finding a job because, frankly, the person is a little odd and employers are put off by that and do not hire. The person lost everything at one point, never got back on track... depression, etc...

There are many "storms" in life. Having no family or friends is probably the biggest one of all.

they are the people who... when the neighbors search out victims to save from the flood, the neighbors on finding the person say, 'Oh, it's just you" and leave him where he is at to go find someone worthy of saving (yes, I am being rather jocular here, but barely)

Hear you. Seems a laudable sentiment.

However, I think that you missed some points, such as:
    1. In an actual "world", is there such thing as "government assistance" outside some band-aid bizzaro Orwellian backwards designation like "Planned Parenthood"?
     1. Define:
      1. Government
      2. Assist
(just to clarify. You don't have to, unless you wish to discuss something not a recipe for confusion, bickering (contra "argument") etc.
    "Lord, have mercy".

how ironic that you ask ME to clarify!
first you may want to clarify your own post so I can understand it?

If you don't understand it, then how did you know(?) that I was asking you to clarify?

    I WASN'T, unless...

    I was the one clarifying.

Yeah I know, just forget it.
