  • Hello!

Included here are 3 volumes of a 5 volume set on France.

The first volume of what appears to be a lengthy history in France in 5(?) volumes.

I skimmed through the first set, it seems fine. The second book seems historically accurate. However, as a general warning (not to say you are ignorant of this) secular histories are to be approached with caution.

There is, a quite lengthy set of books called the "History of the Popes" by a man named Ludwig Pastor. His series starts from about the Middle Ages all the way to Gregory XVI, if I am not mistaken. However, upon first glance, they seem to be historically accurate. Also, it provided key information that I had sought concerning Alexander VI. They are good reads (40 vols. however). I am positive the history of France is included. Also, duly noted, is that he comes from a Roman Catholic prospective.

    Have fun!

    Thank you!

However, I am looking for something shorter. I have the e-books of Pastor's magisterial work. It is very good.

I just now looked at the old Catholic Encyclopedia's entry for France, and it's authored by G. Goyau, author of La Franc-Maçonnerie en France, which seems good. (The New Catholic Encyclopedia doesn't even have an article on France.)

France: 1814-1940 by Bury also seems good.

Here seems to be a one volume set of a history of France! I have not looked over it, but the book is still fairly long (700+ pages).

archive.org is a great website to find all sorts of books. I actually have been printing out all the public domain books and binding them myself. Its been fun!

    Thanks,

    William
