A number of the more intelligent Novus Ordo NeoCons at my college love Roger Scruton. They view him as an intellectual giant and "the greatest living conservative" O looked into this guy, and I find nothing remarkable about him. He used to be against ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, now he sees nothing wrong with it. His views on religion seem confused. Take a look at this

I hope someone here can understand what he's saying, because I can't. I can understand St. Augustine and St. Thomas pretty easily. I don't have an issue with rigorous philosophy and tough concepts, but Scruton just seems confused.

Why are NeoCons so obsessed with this guy? He doesn't hold a candle to Dr. Thomas Fleming( a series Catholic scholar)

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9

  • Roger Scruton is at least above Jordan Peterson who is a complete hack. The fact that Peterson is more well known and heralded in popular "traditionalist"/"conservative" circles is quite telling.

I know next to nothing about Peterson(everyone talks about him) Why is Scruton  better?

Peterson operates on a completely popular level, i.e. his thought is vacuous and only impresses those without any sort of background in the areas from which he cherry picks flashy quotes.
Scruton, for all his failings (and you will scarcely find an intellectual without his peculiarities), is at least well grounded in the humanities and has insightful criticism to offer on, for example, Wagner. That being said, Scruton is very much a conservative in the context of English politics. In other words, he is very grounded in the political milieu of contemporary England rather than a rootless social critic with no such foundation.

  • Their attraction to Scruton is due in part to him having the kosher stamp of approval. Therefore he's a "respectable figure" who appears on TV and who embraces some of the ideas they like. If they were to realize that Jєωs determine who is and who is not a "respectable figure" their ideals would clash violently with their worldly desires.

Their liking for him is a sign of desperation. They will latch onto anyone in the mainstream who throws them so much as a few crumbs.
Some would have people believe that I'm a deceiver because I've used various handles on different Catholic forums. They only know this because I've always offered such information, unprompted. Various troll accounts on FE. Ben on SuscipeDomine. Patches on ABLF 1.0 and TeDeum. GuitarPlucker, Busillis, HatchC, and Rum on Cathinfo.

  • I'm guessing that neo-cons like him because he sounds a lot like their biggest idol, William F. Buckley, Jr.

For these people, substance has no real importance.
