Great book-
All of my old hippie heroes (I was not always a trad Catholic!) were  military dark- ops.
Frank Zappa, David Crosby, Mama Cass, Jim Morrison - the family connections are amazing..
It's all so occultic and scary.
I read it along time ago- was this the book that talked about Charlie Manson's involvement, too? He was right in there with all of these characters and also had a band. I remember Doris Day's son, Terry Melcher and the Beach Boys were involved with Charlie and the "girls".
They were all CIA and military connected as well.
Dave McGowan was interviewed by Jeff Rense a few times before he died- it's in his archives ( you have to pay for it) but those were really intense shows.

I was a die hard Elton John fan. I did have some Doors albums though. Elton was the first man to break my heart. You know how people like to say they remember exactly where they were when Kennedy was shot, or the towers came down? Well, I remember exactly where I was when I found out Elton John is queer. I was going to marry that man!! I really was!!! Broke my heart and disgusted me like nothing had ever done before. 

Yeah, I had never heard of this book before. But when it was discussed on a podcast, I had to scope it out. I'm about halfway in, and Manson is mentioned. You can go on youtube and hear Manson singing. There are albums of his demo tapes. He is sincerely no worse than any of these other sons of intel. His voice is smooth, his lyrics are banal, and his melodies are sometimes brilliant and sometimes hazy or almost non-existent. Each musical piece seems to promise both prodigy and boredom all at the same time. A proof of psychosis, maybe? :)

If McGowan covers Manson's bio, I haven't gotten to it yet. He's already mentioned him a lot. I'm betting five bucks that Manson was someone who organically drifted into the Canyon, and was not sent. He was a nobody trying to be a somebody; and the fact that he died in prison and was never a recording artist tends to prove that. 

Because the book is so dark and painful to consider, I'm switching back and forth between it and moondoggie, which is a lark and a delight to read. McGowan had a great sense of humor.
