Trump Slams Abortion, Infanticide in SOTU: “All Children, Born and Unborn, Made in the Image of God”

National   Steven Ertelt   Feb 5, 2019   |   11:20PM    Washington, DC

President Donald Trump gave a clear and forceful message on pro-life issues during the State of the Union Address tonight.

He slammed the governors of New York and Virginia for promoting abortion up to birth and infanticide. And he called for Congress to pass a ban on late-term abortions on babies who are capable of feeling pain.

    Quote
There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our nation saw in recent days.

Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth. These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.

And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.
Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.

And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth — all children — born and unborn— are made in the holy image of God.

Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life:

    Quote
We greatly appreciate the leadership President Trump has shown in advancing the cause for life during his time in office. Tonight, he used his State of the Union address to highlight the extremism of the pro-abortion agenda most recently and fully on display in New York and Virginia, and stressed the need for legislation like the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. President Trump has once again demonstrated the paramount importance of protecting mothers and their unborn children.

In response, Susan B. Anthony List praised President Trump’s remarks:

“Once again President Trump has proved he is our nation’s most pro-life president ever and he is keeping his promise to the voters who fueled his victory,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The contrast between President Trump’s vision for the future and that of the Democratic Party, now dominated by abortion extremists, is stark. Senate Democrats had the chance yesterday to prove they are not the party of infanticide, and instead they doubled down on a radical agenda of abortion on demand through birth and even beyond. That position that is simply irreconcilable with the values of the American people. We ask Congress to heed President Trump’s request, and to send the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to his desk without delay. This popular, compassionate legislation would protect unborn babies after five months – more than halfway through pregnancy, and a point at least by which these children can feel the pain of abortion.”

“The greatness of our nation is defined by the way we treat the most innocent and vulnerable among us, and the time for choosing is more pivotal than ever. All decent Americans must stand up, speak out, and defeat abortion extremism at the ballot box in 2020.”

Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins:

    Quote
“Never before has the contrast between the two parties been more clear, as there seems to be no line that the Democratic Party will draw when it comes to protecting either life in the womb or the health of women in abortion facilities. And as we saw with Peℓσѕι’s guest, Planned Parenthood has friends in government as it draws in more than half-a-billion in taxpayer dollars.

“President Trump’s comments in support of life are an important call to action for all of us. I applaud him for using the bully pulpit to celebrate life.”
    Lord have mercy.

  • Mitch McConnell: Democrats Can Run But They Can’t Hide, We Will Make Them Go on Record Defending Infanticide

National   Steven Ertelt   Feb 5, 2019   |   4:13PM    Washington, DC

As LifeNews reported yesterday, Democrat Senator Patty Murray blocked a vote on a bill from pro-life Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska that would stop infanticide nationwide. The legislation would prohibit leaving babies to die without medical care if they are born alive after a failed abortion.

The vote would come after Virginia Governor Ralph Northam endorsed infanticide on a radio show last week.

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse had wanted to vote on Monday on a bill to protect babies born alive after failed abortions to help determine whether Senate Democrats support infanticide. Murray’s objection prevented a vote.

But, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, before the objection was made, promised Senate Democrats that they would be coming to the senate floor to vote on infanticide. He pledged not to let them off the hook.

“What could be more unanimous than this: That what medical professionals owe every single newborn American citizen, regardless of the circuмstances of their birth, is attention and care — not neglect, and certainly not violence,” the Republican leader said.

“If they do inexplicably block Sen. Sasse’s effort,” McConnell added, “I can assure them that this will not be the last time we try to ensure that all newborns are afforded this fundamental legal protection.”

  • Catholic Bishop Slams Virginia Governor Ralph Northam for Supporting Infanticide
State   Steven Ertelt   Feb 5, 2019   |   11:00AM    Washington, DC

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is in trouble.

Last week, the pro-abortion governor appeared to defend infanticide as well as third-trimester abortions in his state. Now, he is facing backlash over a racist photo in his medical school yearbook.

And while the mainstream news focus has turned to the racism allegations, pro-life leaders are reminding people of the “staggering” extremism of Northam’s abortion position.

“In a staggering admission, Gov. Ralph Northam stated that after an infant is delivered, the mother and the family should keep the baby comfortable, resuscitate the child ‘if that’s what the mother and the family desired,’ and ‘a discussion would ensue,’” Catholic Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington said Sunday in a letter to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“This attitude reflects a new level of deep-rooted animus against the inherent goodness of every child,” Burbidge continued.

Last week, Northam defended a radical pro-abortion bill that would have allowed unborn babies to be aborted up to the point when a woman is about to give birth – even if there is no physical threat to her health. The legislation failed in committee.

The governor not only defended the legislation, but he also said doctors and women could have a discussion about whether to leave a disabled newborn baby to die.

The bill itself was “evil” and bordered on infanticide, but Northam’s comments were even more troubling, Burbidge said.

“This is a critical moment in the life of our church and our society,” he wrote. “We must advocate for the right to life of all people, including the unborn and those children whose lives are at risk even during the process of birth.”

“This bill rightfully failed — but I am, along with so many people, distraught that the bill was introduced in the first place,” Burbidge continued. “It could have paved the way for babies to suffer a violent and gruesome death moments before birth and could have been harmful to women.”

He urged Virginians to contact their elected officials and tell them to support the right to life for all human beings.

  • President Trump Slams Virginia Governor for Promoting Infanticide: That’s “Unforgivable!”

National   Steven Ertelt   Feb 4, 2019   |   2:29PM    Washington, DC

President Donald Trump over the weekend did not mince words when he condemned Virginia governor Ralph Northam for promoting infanticide.

Northam not only defended a bill in the state legislature that would legalize abortions up to birth – even if the mother is dilated — he defended infanticide during a radio show.

Northam apparently thinks it’s okay to kill a baby once the infant is fully delivered.

“If a mother is in labor…the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and mother,” he said.

Later Northam doubled down on his support for infanticide via a spokesman, who essentially said the governor was only talking about infanticide in cases of disabled babies. Then Northam said he had no apologies for promoting infanticide.

In tweets Saturday night, Trump criticized Northam over his recent comments on late-term abortion.

As calls mounted Saturday for Northam to resign because of the photo, Trump tweeted: “Democrat Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia just stated, ‘I believe that I am not either of the people in that photo.’ This was 24 hours after apologizing for appearing in the picture and after making the most horrible statement on ‘super’ late term abortion. Unforgivable!”

In a second tweet, Trump wrote: “Ed Gillespie, who ran for Governor of the Great State of Virginia against Ralph Northam, must now be thinking Malpractice and Dereliction of Duty with regard to his Opposition Research Staff. If they find that terrible picture before the election, he wins by 20 points!”

The pro-abortion Democrat governor who defended infanticide is now facing massive criticism after a photo emerged that appears to show Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph Northam appearing in a photograph that shows him and someone else dressed up in a KKK hood and in blackface.

The photo, from Northam’s 1984 yearbook at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and shows “two people, one wearing white Ku Klux Klan robes and a hood, the other with his face painted black.”

Northam apologized for the photo but would not say which person in it is him and would not agree to heed calls for his resignation. Later he claimed he is not pictured in the photo.

  • Rhode Island Democrat Admits He Didn’t Read Bill Allowing Abortions Up to Birth, Drops Sponsorship

State   Micaiah Bilger   Feb 5, 2019   |   6:51PM    Providence, Rhode Island

A Rhode Island lawmaker stopped supporting a radical pro-abortion bill this week after admitting that he co-sponsored the legislation without reading it.

The Providence Journal reports state Rep. Jose Serodio, a freshman lawmaker, filed paperwork to withdraw his name as a co-sponsor after he said he learned more details about the bill.

The newspaper pointed to pro-life advocates’ hard work as a reason for Serodio’s switch.

“We are presently attempting to quietly peel off a few more bill cosponsors, one has already withdrawn,” Rhode Island State Right To Life wrote in a legislative alert this week.

The bill, the state Reproductive Health Care Act, co-sponsored by state Sen. gαyle L. Goldin and Rep. Edith H. Ajello, would strip away even minor, common-sense abortion regulations – ones that a strong majority of Americans support. It would eliminate protections for unborn babies and codify Roe v. Wade into state law in case the U.S. Supreme Court overturns the ruling.

    Here’s more from the report:

    Quote
Serodio told The Journal he had originally agreed to cosponsor the bill because: “Someone asked me to sign something.″

A newcomer who wanted to be “polite,″ he said, he did so but “I didn’t known exactly what I was signing.”

Serodio said his decision to withdraw evolved out of a conversation he had, over coffee, with his onetime Democratic primary opponent, David V. O’Connell.

He said O’Connell asked him why he head cosponsored Ajello’s bill. “I thought you were pro-life,” he reportedly said.

“When I realized my mistake,″ Serodio said, “I went back and withdrew my signature.” He said he also learned a lesson: “Read.”
A similar situation occurred last week with a Virginia state lawmaker who admitted she had not read Del. Kathy Tran’s abortion bill before co-sponsoring it. Tran’s bill became a national news story when she admitted that it would allow abortions through all nine months of pregnancy, including while a mother is in labor – even if there is no physical threat to her health.

The Rhode Island bill is not very different from the Virginia bill, which failed, or the New York abortion law that passed in January.

Gov. Gina Raimondo, who claims to be Catholic, has been advocating for the bill. Her spokesperson slammed LifeNews.com for reporting on her comments earlier this week. Raimondo basically said she supports a law allowing women to abort unborn babies for basically any reason up to birth, including to “make ends meet.”

Raimondo’s spokesman Josh Block told the newspaper that the LifeNews article did not accurately portray the governor’s views.

“The Governor supports the RHCA, which simply enshrines existing protections under Roe v. Wade into state law,” he said.

But Block’s statement appears to bank on voters’ ignorance, because Roe, along with its companion case Doe v. Bolton, does allow third-trimester abortions for economic “health” reasons. The U.S. Supreme Court’s definition of “health” in those cases includes “age, economic, social and emotional factors;” it is an extremely broad definition that legalizes almost any abortion.

Ajello’s bill also adds this broad “health” exception for abortions after viability.

According to Rhode Island Right to Life, the bill would expand abortions beyond even what Roe v. Wade allows by eliminating any constitutional restrictions on late-term abortions.

In January, Ajello described protections for unborn babies as “insidiously restrictive, harmful and patriarchal reproductive laws.” Her bill would even repeal the state partial-birth abortion ban and fetal homicide law, which provides justice to pregnant mothers whose unborn babies are killed by abusive partners, drunken drivers or others whose illegal actions cause the death of the unborn baby.

The ACLU, which supports Ajello’s bill, has claimed fetal homicide laws are problematic because they treat “a fetus as a person.”

Meanwhile, Rhode Island RTL says it is working on advertising campaigns and other efforts to further expose the truth about the radical pro-abortion legislation.
