  • Wow -- I know they aren't the majority, but wow! It's like looking at American politics from 1910, only live in person, in color!

Americans used to be similarly down-to-earth, common sense, rational in their politics, impressed by logic, arguments and facts (instead of just emotion), etc. Gotta love the Irish!

Watching this, I want to change my name to "Patrick Brendan" and add a "Mc" to my last name. Which is especially funny, since my last name already starts with Mc...

Oh, and I want to wear green for a year, and fly the Irish flag in front of my home -- not the tricolor one either ;)
I will declare the official band for this thread to be: The Wolfe Tones (famous for their Irish Rebel music)

    Want to say "thank you"?

  • I watched most of the OP video, and I have to agree with everything Mr. Barrett said. He's very aware of the problems in the modern world, especially with the Covid nonsense.

I did a little background check on him, and it appears that he's a fan of the ideas of Belloc and Chesterton, which is really good, IMO. He wants a government based on Catholicism. He seems to strive to be a good Catholic, though he did have his previous marriage annulled. That is a problem. He's okay with divorce.

Though Mr. Barrett probably has more sound Catholic ideals than most politicians, not everyone in his Nationalist party will also have at least some sound Catholic principles. That's the problem with political parties. Mr. Barret no doubt works with people in his party who do not have Catholic principles, and they will not adhere to them if the Nationalist party is in power in Ireland. Nationalism attracts many different types of people. Not all of them good. Some have pagan notions (Odin and all that nonsense).

  • Now if he could only fix his marriage.

Unfortunately, Mr. Barret has re-married, so not much hope for fixing the problem, and of course re-marriage only makes it worse. But, as in the case of Trump, when there's a dearth of good politicians, we have to take what we can get.
