The Taliban and the Mujahideen masquerade as something they’re not: they use Islam but they don’t respect it. All they’re after is money and power. They rape women and children. The Afghan people, my people, need to open their eyes,” Ahmad Farhad Bitani says.

 

Ahmad is a 27 year old former Afghan military commander–turned political refugee. His eyes betray the hatred and sadness he feels and his thirst for justice. He has felt the hatred of fanatics on his own skin ever since he can remember: his father, a former Mujahideen commander and general of the armed forces, spent much of his life hunting down members of the Taliban. They responded by targeting him and his family.
