  • Brief clip uploaded to YouTube. Sean South is a favourite of mine.Any time I pass the house he lived in, I get this feeling of great patriotic pride.Contrary to what the songs say, South wasn't from Garryowen

He was a devout Catholic. We can't forget Fergal O'Hanlon either. He was also a devout Catholic.

I have included a song about him below

    The Funeral of Sean South

    Quote
50,000 people lined the streets of Limerick City for the Funeral of Irish patriot and solidier Sean South who was killed in action fighting for Ireland's liberation during the Irish Republican Army's Border Campaign on the 1st January 1957

    Lament for Sean South.

    Fergal O'Hanlon

There is a story told of how some of the column started to tell rude jokes though probably mild compared to the filth today.. Sean South knowing the seriousness of the mission jumped from the bed and began leading the men in praying the rosary. They were young but still the fight against the English was no laughing matter.

They fought and died for a Gaelic and Catholic Ireland.
