  • This is Rush Limbaugh responding to a caller...

RUSH:  "And you're really distressed because there may not be that there's a pro-life church, anymore.  The left is taking over every institution.  They have to be stopped, and it's about time, maybe... You know, I'm not trying to be Pollyannaish and look at the bright side of this (because I don't, frankly, see many) but one of them is: Don't doubt me, anymore! It's out front of your eyes! Believe what you see, believe what you hear. It is real!  The Catholic Church has a bunch of leftists in it who would just as soon destroy the church and remake it, as the government has liberals in it who want to remake our government and destroy the Constitution.  Liberals are liberals.  They do not value institutions until they run them and remake them in their own way, and nothing is sacred.  Not the Catholic Church, not the Methodist Church. Nothing! Zilch, zero, nada."
I renounce any and all of my former views against what the Church through Pope Leo XIII said, "This, then, is the teaching of the Catholic Church ...no one of the several forms of government is in itself condemned, inasmuch as none of them contains anythi

  • As far as the liberal part, YUP hes right on. Liberals are liberals, and the Catholic Church is rampant with them, from up on high to down on low. Sometimes I think the only way out is a push of the reset button... but thats not too positive of an outlook.

  • Since virtually everyone is immoral and brainwashed (or else deliberately striving for) "NWO" like impossible utpias... Why don't we just all go home, shut our doors, and never come out again? Because after all, not only popular radio hosts, but also mailmen, doctors, grocery clerks and people from all walks of life are atheists, immoral, or even freemasonic!

Welcome to the age in which we live. Yep... it's pretty much an atheistic, utopian-dreaming Sodom. Unfortunately, we happen to live in it. In order to do so, we must frequently listen to, trust, do business with and all kinds of other things... with those utopia/NWO-mongering, atheistic people around us.

In the case of politics, we have our choice for instance, between the mainstream media... which will simply lie about anything and everything without even trying to cover up their lies and gross skewing of the facts to suit their political agenda... and say, Rush Limbaugh... who, whatever he may be, at least is willing to report what is going on out there so people can draw conclusions for themselves. There is one matter in which Rush proves very useful. 999 times out of 1000, he seems pretty much on the money as to what politicians, who are a lot worse than him, are going to do and why. And whatever his beliefs or mine, I believe that information to be interesting and insightful.

I don't find public slander campaigns against individuals very edifying, however. In fact, according to my catechism, it's a sin to publicly smear someone's name. Even if what you're saying is true. (That is, even if the person in question really IS the devil's own armpit hair.) Of course, it is much easier, and perhaps much more fun to publicly bash and condemn people, simply because they're bad. (Even if the Catholic religion teaches us to LOVE our enemies, and to do GOOD to them that hate and persecute us.)

Well... you may go your way, and I will go mine. Like the apostle in the Bible says, we cannot really get away from these guys, otherwise we "must needs go out of this world." But a sensible person erring neither to one side or the other, will carefully tend his own mind and soul, and interact with these people when and where he must. In this case, one of the few places where one can hear the truth about ANYTHING in politics (all of the things the mainstream media fails to report, for instance, or the truth about what they DO "report"). Even if the man's personal philosophies are not all good.

Either we're a little late on shutting ourselves safely away from this world full of bad guys in the doors of our own home... or else we will have to learn sensibly to live in this world we're in. And I'm afraid that will mean listening to one or two (or perhaps more!) people who are in error about something.

  • You can switch off Rush Limbaugh without going in your house/ locking the door/not dealing with any "non-Catholics" around you.

You sound like a rabid Rush fan.

There's a difference between dealing with non-Catholics in the country you live in (to buy food, hold a job, etc.) and listening to media shows of non-Catholics.

Rush Limbaugh is not my co-worker, who I have to "listen to" or deal with in my normal commerce in the world. If he WERE a real person in my world, it might be meritorious for me to try to influence/convert him.

But you're getting a one-way media blast from him -- he can influence you, but you can't influence him. That's a whole different story. Catholics CAN and SHOULD switch off all such media from non-Catholics. Rush (for example) offers no benefits you couldn't get many other places.

I can, and do, ignore ("switch off") Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Anderson Cooper, and all the talking heads on CNN, Fox, etc. I'm none the worse for it. On the contrary!

I get my news from Internet sources. I do my own thinking, with principles borrowed from the Catholic Church. For insight and ideas, I read articles by Catholics and those with their heads screwed on straight. There are much better non-Catholics to listen to than Rush.

Full Disclosure: I used to be a Rush Limbaugh fan in high school -- yes, when I was ignorant about most things. Back then I considered myself a "Republican" and watched his TV show. I even bought Limbaugh's book, "See I told you so".

I don't consider myself Republican anymore, though I might vote that way in a major election to avert a catastrophe like  Obama.  I'm certainly more of an "Independent" Ron Paul type today (though I've heard reports that Ron Paul used the goat horns hand sign)

  • A 15 year old girl who reads nothing but Catholic books, the Bible, etc. would get MORE things right than someone who listens to Rush Limbaugh and blindly agrees with all of his positions.

Armed with the right principles and an ability to think clearly, anyone can figure out this messed up world.

Throwing out the TV AND radio is something to be highly recommended for all Catholics. They are NOT a necessary part of being "in the world but not of it".

Going outside your home and talking/meeting with people -- that's a different story altogether. That is how the saints converted people, by talking one-on-one with real people.

In fact, the Catholic Church used to have an "index of forbidden books" which would have included TV and radio programs, if they had existed.

Rush is a mouth piece for GOP, so no, he is not right much at all....married 3x, screwing some chick he needs Viagra for and twists and turns truth, rarely ever is God mentioned-again, listen to the audio link I provided, the points made by the hosts are rather good.Poisoning your mind nad thoughts with 3 hrs of him will lead one to "go their own way", right where many are, indifferentism and syncretism.....but, if you want to go that way, have at it...

and no one isshuting oneself off, it is called----discernment!!! Merely saying "heck we live in the world, it is what is is" is more appropriate thinking at FE....

for the feeble attempt of fake "I am taking the high road nad thorwing out a few bible quotes", you are making excuses for allowing yourself to be slowly entertained and warped into Neoconservatism....

slander is not made, discernment is!! You mean to tell me you do not criticize anyone at all, ever, never??? or are we made ad a nerve hit when our tin god, Limbaugh, is broached??

so, smearing someone is a sin, even if true.hmm..in that case then, we should never, ever call sinners out and to repentance.....this is complete garbage thinking, again, can tell you already have wasted far too much time on Neocon radio.......so, telling the truth is now sinful......I would at this time invite you to FE, for the "hear no evil, see no evil, call out no evil" is big there....

  • Matthew, great response....my mother is a rabid Rush fan and this has led her into a one-way thinking, usually his and indifferentism/syncretism on many topics....no Catholic thinking....she feels religious liberty is great,etc...

for the record, I do not fear a Obama, Kerry, et al and never anymore vote GOP nationally, cannot stomach "lesser of evisl" candidates and have to put my faith in God, which would preclude voting McCain,Bush,etc......again, not slamming Matthew or anyone else, just saying....

want to listen to the radio? find a Catholic one, even one so-so is far better than Rush....or, better, try to get CD's and/or IPOD, etc....I can get into my car and have several CD's,some I bought, MP3 I bought and many, many talks for free that would keep me entertained for several hours.....likely, would take me all the way to Texas without having to listen to Neo-con men.....

  • There's a big difference between listening to something and believing every word of it. A well-informed person can listen to CNN and probably discern the truth just by what lies are being told. If Rush says, "let's set up a one-world government," obviously no decent person would agree with him. If he says that there is a bill in congress and this and such is what's in it... well, that's pretty straightforward stuff.

Yeah, it'd be stupid to listen to any modern day media personality and just blindly believe everything they say. In fact, the only person you can "blindly" believe is Our Lord. But I think it's a little ridiculous to say that barring 100% saintly, traditional Catholic resources, there is no person we can hear without ending up an atheist or a communist or something... that's just asinine. If that's what you want to believe, great. But I have a working brain, and I'm not some idiot that turns on the tv or radio and just sucks it all in and nods and just accepts everything as true. (Quite the opposite.)

When the SSPX opens a radio or tv channel, let me know, and I'll be the first to tune in. Until then, I'm afraid I'll have to make use of more conventional (albeit less trustworthy) sources for my information as to what's going on in the world out there.

The whole point in posting ANYTHING Rush said, was simply to illustrate my shock that any secular media personality anywhere would actually come out and say, not only that the Church has problems, but so precisely what the problem is. (Yeah, we know it... but it was still really weird to hear someone say it in the secular media.)

I renounce any and all of my former views against what the Church through Pope Leo XIII said, "This, then, is the teaching of the Catholic Church ...no one of the several forms of government is in itself condemned, inasmuch as none of them contains anythi
