Another little point a lot of you haven't thought about:
The year is 2021. The United States is 1 year into its Second cινιℓ ωαr. It doesn't matter who won the 2020 Presidential Election. You can guess what the two sides are (conservatives, those who follow God's design, plan, laws, and the Sons of Belial "without yoke" who want to create a new world without God, without His laws, etc.)
You will no doubt have to interact with people in your local area, right? To buy/trade for food, supplies, water, protection, etc.
You with me so far?
Don't you suppose some groups/leaders will be asking you "Who did you vote for in 2020?" Some will be most interested in knowing where you stand, and if you are part of the problem.
Not everyone will be 100% cool, calm, and rational about it either. In the book "A Canticle For Leibowitz" there is a global nuclear war, after which the survivors kill off everyone with any "book knowledge" -- those who, in their emotional opinion, helped bring about the disaster. All scientists, computer guys, professors, you name it. The survivors were completely emotional, over-reacting, and "human" in their response. This book was very realistic; the author must be very familiar with both history and human nature.
Expect high emotion, simple reasoning, and no-nonsense measures. Picture a gun to your head, while someone brings out a Bible and places your hand on it, as someone else asks you who you voted for in the 2020 Election.
Good luck explaining to them your "Catholic" principles that led you to vote for a third party. I wish you the best of luck that the Conservative general/leader/warlord/etc. will let you into his compound (I put Catholic in quotes, because there is NO Catholic principle that requires one to bash Trump or not vote for him. And yet you did!)
Or maybe you can lie to them! God will understand why you broke the 8th commandment... ...won't He? But what if the group quizzing you believes in God? They might ask you to swear on the Bible. After all, a leader needing to know if he can trust you or not in a collapse/war scenario WOULD BE SUFFICIENT CAUSE for groups to require individuals to make a solemn oath calling on God to witness to the truth of his words.
Or maybe you could try your luck with the Liberal side -- just tell them you didn't vote for Trump, and show them some of your old anti-Trump posts on Social Media! They'll welcome you in as one of their own. Good luck with trying to serve God in such a group, however. It will be like living in Sodom.
Or maybe you could continue to be "aloof from both sides", not living in any compound -- Good luck posting 24/7 guards taken from your small family. Yes, I said small family. I'm going to assume you have 12 children. Like I said, small family. Compared to an army, gang, or any organized group, any single family is SMALL. It's difficult to impossible to have proper security if you're just one family. How many men aged 13 or older will you have? You will eventually fall to the first gang that attacks your house looking for supplies.
Long story short: You need to pick a side. Lone-Wolfing it isn't going to cut it. I know, you're too unique, too special, too creative to fit into any "box". But maybe you need to get over yourself and pick a side. Those who want God/nation/law or those who want the devil/nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr/communism.
You WILL have to choose. And there will only be two sides in the upcoming conflict. The expression "You're either with us or against us" comes to mind. In war, you are either "with us" or "with the enemy". Lone wolves are treated as enemy by default.

One need not invoke fiction to make the point.
The Bolsheviks, Red Guard, and Khmer Rouge all murdered intellectuals—in the case of the Khmer Rouge, even wearing eyeglasses was a capital crime.

Thanks for pointing that out. I only included it vaguely by saying "the author knew his history".
Those intellectuals weren't responsible for "keeping down the working man" any more than a few kooky Trad Catholics voting third party (and failing to vote for Trump) brought about the Second American cινιℓ ωαr. But emotions aren't logical, are they, otherwise they wouldn't be emotions.

I know I'm a female, and this is probably really a men's topic; but since my husband doesn't post on here, I'm putting a word in for him.
There's a local militia group in our area that is family based; pretty much the grandfather, his 4 sons, and their grandsons meet monthly for rifle practice. They try to do things for themselves. My husband knows them, and they have a lot of the same interests, although the head of the family just wanted to keep it in the family, we both thought it was an interesting idea. (FYI: They'd be on the Conservative side of said cινιℓ ωαr!)
My thought after reading Matthew's post was: wouldn't it be a good idea for trad Catholic men to start something similar in their areas? Really, if such a situation as Matthew proposed came about, it would be preferable for a Catholic MAN to be in charge of leading/defending a small group of people versus a Protestant man, no matter how well-meaning he might be.

Catholic friends meeting to enjoy shooting carries little baggage. Coloring such a gathering as "militia" raises your profile and the stakes.
My first suggestion for you is you might peruse the postings at WRSA: https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/ (https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/)
When you appreciate the enormous moral differences among the posters and notice the high prevalence of bloodlusting, parchment-worshipping neo-cons, pagans, and Prots, you may rethink affiliating with anything that resembles "militia."
IMHO Catholic friends meeting to enjoy shooting, even tactical shooting, comms, and prepping seems a better idea.

Good point!

If it comes down to what the OP describes, and maybe it will, then the argument for voting for trump is 100 percent based on how trump is perceived, and zero percent his actual positions. I mean trump could literally be a satanist, be pro liberal in every way possible, but IF the public perceives him as the conservative option. He’s still worth voting for based on the reasoning in the OP.
Thoughts?

…"Who did you vote for in 2020?"….
I think the more important question is, "Have you ever worked for the government in any capacity?"

Anyone who labels themselves a 'militia' should be avoided like the plague. Plus, odds are, with groups such as those, you will eventually run into a .gov informant whose job it is to get you to do something illegal so they can arrest you. For an example, look up Randy Weaver.

I second this suggestion. Unfortunately, as of late, the comments have been turned off. But when they were going, one could easily see what Mark79 was referring to, and how far apart even the 'conservatives' were on many a topic.

It's very simple for me. I'll tell them I voted for the guy who was for America first. Not Israel first.
Then I think we're done here.

Then don't expect to be trusted/accepted by the CONSERVATIVE side in the cινιℓ ωαr.
There are only two sides in a time of war. "US" and "THEM". Or, "FRIEND" and "ENEMY". War is extremely tribal and primitive; there are no nuances. Everything is emotion and tribalism.
Today in our civilized society you have the right to vote for some no-name who gets 10 votes nationwide. Good for you.
But in a collapse scenario (or cινιℓ ωαr), that will basically amount to being a Lone Wolf -- completely on your own. Good luck with that. Seriously though, your home will have new owners -- one of the TWO sides (Conservatives or Liberals) will have conquered your home a few months into the war. You and your family will be dead. I have to be blunt, because such is the harsh reality of war and collapse. Sugar-coating does nobody any good.
Even if those 10 or 20 voters for "Mr. No-name" lived on the same compound, that is nothing compared to the tens of millions on each side in the coming cινιℓ ωαr.
Unless there is a *large* contingent of "Traditional Catholics", "Chestertonians", "St. Simon of Trent Society" or some such group you can band together with, you're going to have to ally your family with either the CONSERVATIVES or the LIBERALS. We'll see how many conservatives forgive you for not voting for Trump. Some will, some won't. I hate to break it to you, but that's just the way it works.
We make our own choices, and we live with the consequences. We each have free will.

I agree that many other questions will be asked -- and your skin color and accent will be closely looked at as well.
Don't look for civilization, enlightenment, multiculturalism, or feminism during a time of collapse. To see what a post-collapse will look like, just go to prison for a while.
The races mix in prison about as much as oil and water.
Men will have about the same status as men in countries with Sharia law today. And women will have about as many rights -- unless Catholics are in control. But even then, women won't have the "rights" they have today with feminism. With Catholicism women won't be treated like chattel or objects, but everywhere else they will be. And nowhere will women be treated "equal" to men.

Yes, a sobering high-probability assessment.
Worse, many will not ask any questions, but shoot first on the basis of "Your skin color is your uniform."
Tragic, but a realistic assessment of the state of morality in the USA.
-
Then don't expect to be trusted/accepted by the CONSERVATIVE side in the cινιℓ ωαr.
So I assume your "conservative" side in the cινιℓ ωαr is not for America first?
I would assume Trump supporters would believe they're for American interests first. I'm sure Trump believes in his heart with all his jew butt kissing and killing this Iranian general that he was really doing his job , defending this country from rogue terrorists from Iran and putting american interests first, which just happens to align with Israel. Our best buddy. ::)
Apart from all that, I don't get that you would assume I would be in with the freak camp of fαɢs, liberals and social justice warriors. I just happen to be more of a nationalist than a Republican. I think you have misjudged me.
-
I think you have misjudged me.
When you made the distinction between "America first" and "Israel first" I assumed you were making the usual dig about Trump -- suggesting you would not vote for him.
Otherwise, why even bring the "Israel first" thing up?

I think that will be more of an issue with the blacks than the whites. they will fall into the "tribe" mentality .
But as Matthew pointed out, it will be more like the prison yards, everyone will fall into their little groups.
Also language will be a big factor as well. Religion not so much. nobody will be able to look at you and tell if you're "catholic".

I explained it already. I think Trump really believes that the U.S. and Israel have the same interests. sometimes I think these neo-cons really believe that having Israel as a fly in the ointment over there keeps the Arabs/muslims disrupted enough where they can't unite or keeps them unbalanced in some way. But the reality is, it's Israel keeping us over there bullying their enemies and protecting their borders, all on the American dime and bodies of our servicemen. But guys like Trump think we have a mutual interests Or he believe he can placate the jews just enough to keep them satisfied. He is wrong.
As for voting for him, if I believe that is right for this nation at that time , then of course.
