Perhaps the same reason that Obama didn't either?  It's because they do what they think they can get away with and sometimes prefer to boil the frog ... little by little.  First this type of thing (e.g. bump stock), then that type of thing (certain kinds of ammo) ... that's how they all operate.

Nor is it possible for a President to just unilaterally take guns away, and certainly not in one fell swoop.

I think it's a valid question. I think certain extreme fears about a new president fall hollow when the man has already spent 4 years as President. He neither started the Fourth Reich, nor deported all Mexican-Americans, nor started World War 3, nor became Dictator for Life, etc. etc.

I don't care if Trump is part of the inner circle of the Illuminati: NO MAN, HOWEVER RICH OR POWERFUL can guarantee they'll have 2 more years of life at age 70 -- much less 8 more years. Even if the devil is actively working with Trump and his team, the devil still doesn't have power of life & death. Why would Trump wait until he leaves office, loses power for 4 years due to fraud, and then HOPES to get back in for a second term 2025 - 2029 -- hoping he'll live more than a few days of his 2nd term? Not reasonable. No one knows how long he will live, especially at that age. Many men never see 70, much less 80.

Trump moved the gun control football further down the field than Obama or Biden.

•Trump initiated the bump stock ban
•Trump supports gun seizures on the word of angry women, "red flag laws"
•Trump signed the expansion of background checks

Obama's only gun control "success" was his executive order on NFA Trusts section 41f.
Trump could have reversed that with an executive order, but did not.

•Trump has repeatedly advocated semi-auto bans, even worked twice with Diane Feinstein in that goal
•Trump boasts he supports gun seizures first and due process later
•Trump nominated Bill Barr as Attorney General, a man who advocates further gun control and who blocked the State of Idaho's murder prosecution against Lon Horiuchi, the FBI killer of Vicki Weaver on Ruby Ridge.

He did all that in his first term when he was restrained by his hopes for a second term.

What will he do in a second term when he no longer needs his useful idiots who give him a pass on every evil because he is a "lesser evil"?
