NEW 2020 LAWS Effective January 1, 2020SB 485 (Beall, Ch. 505, Stats. 2019) This law repeals provisions that authorize or require courts to suspend, revoke, or restrict a driver, or order the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to delay licensure for a person convicted of prostitution or vandalism, a minor convicted of unlawful possession or use of a firearm, or offenses related to possession, purchase, sale, or transport of controlled substances involving the use of a vehicle. The law also prohibits courts from ordering DMV to delay licensure, suspend, revoke, or restrict a person based upon a conviction of minor’s possession/use of controlled substances or alcohol for specified violations.

Does this mean that a known alcoholic cannot have his license suspended?

If so, California roads and freeway are now more deadly.
    Lord have mercy.

  • Dangerous or just idiotic?  Not that I think prostitution is good, but what has it to do with ones ability to drive a car?  In fact, laws of this sort are unenforceable as the people who would be affected just drive without a license.

There is nothing in that law that prohibits revocation of a driver's license for alcoholics. What it does is allow for adults who were convicted of possession of drugs to be able to get licenses.
