I am pretty sure that obtaining an abortion is cheaper then maintaining regular ob/GYN visits that many white women (who are typically in a higher financial bracket) can afford, usually through insurance.  Also, whites (not counting the poor whites, which I believe are a relatively small number now of the total white population) typically put their daughters on birth control around the age of 15-16 years, and they maintain that for the rest of their life, whereas if blacks stick solely to abortions and the use of condoms to regulate their population there are statistically going to be more births.  I grew up in South Texas and I can tell you that I have heard of plenty of latino's having abortions.  Interestingly enough, among miniorities it is the accepted practice to view having illegitimate children at an early age as a positive thing b/c one, "one get's having one's kids out of the way when still living at home - so grandma can take care of the brat while I go out and party' and two, "mom and dad like it b/c that means more welfare income and food stamps."  Of course they still have kids later on in life, that may or may not get aborted, depending on whether or not they can afford the abortion, but they can't afford regular checkups to maintain birth control.  So while the average white women may have an abortion at their doctor's office, they are much more inclined to skip "the nasty procedure" altogether if they can possibly avoid it.  

Another thing is that many hispanic young women have vestiges of Catholic influence left over in their upbringing thanks to the influence of their mothers and grandmothers.  In my highschool, more were inclined to give birth, b/c having an abortion was "just wrong" - but there were enough exceptions that I can definitely say latino's have them.

Perhaps another factor that goes into the higher populations of blacks and latino's is the fact that white's do not encourage having children until much later in life, and typically try to discourage underage sex, much like underage drinking - "we know it happens, so here are the pills, but keep it under control sweetie" - or perhaps something a little more strict (!) then that.  If you consider that hispanic girls are considered full grown women at age 15 (celebrated with multi-thousand dollar party for their coming of age) and that (and I hate to generalize so broadly) most poor blacks don't even pretend to have a moral code with regards to sex, then you end with younger minority girls having more children then white women period.  HM.  What would interest me is an actual statistic showing that combined minorities under the age of 20 give more births per year then the total number of white births.  I am just betting that that is the case - so i obviously, I agree with Chant on this one.
