  • I understand Rand Paul and usually agree with him but I do not understand where he is coming from RE this new bill

I like the new bill b/c it would give control to the states.

Maybe he is lamenting the fact that DC is still allotting money for healthcare? I mean, you know.. yeh, the states get the $$ but it is still going through DC first (allotted to the states according to population?? who knows?)

That is not what he has said, though... (not that I have heard anyway.)

yeh, I do have a problem with THAT (goes through DC first)!

I still say we  should flat out REPEAL and to heck with all that so- called Replace stuff. It does seem to me that Rand is right to say this latest Cassidy-Graham bill is not what the People ordered... aka: Repeal

it is just better than Obamacare...

but then t hat is hardly saying anything, is it?

Yes, DC liks to keep us a little ... uh... discombobulated... even confused, don't they?

but I am absolutely NOT confused about one thing:

we should just flat out REPEAL

    :-X

  • i just don't know what to think. It seems the more I know about healthcare and o/care and etc, the more ... well, I was going to say the more confused I get but I am not confused about this one thing:

Rand is right to say it is not a Repeal

this is what it  lookss like to me:

Obama created another entitlement --Ahhh-- and now the Republicans (as per usual) do not want to get rid of an entitlement even though they c laim to be for small government

The new healthcare bill the Republicans want is way better than O/care, but that goes w/o saying.

What I don't get is why there is this sense of urgency all the sudden.. Why it is being said that this may be our last chance. But no one explains exactly WHY that is so

    ??

Well, why don't we all just say collectively

    God's will be done!

  • If the republicans vote to repeal the bill, they have the votes.  But, then they have to pass an ENTIRELY NEW bill, which they don't have the votes for, because the Democrats in the Senate can fillibuster, because a new bill requires 60 out of 100 votes.  If the republicans repeal and then can't agree on a new bill, or get it passed, then the media will blame all the coming rising healthcare costs on them, when in fact, they were created by infation and obamacare.

So the republicans are trying to "revise" obamacare, which only requires 51 votes in the Senate (and almost passed last time).  The problem with the "revise" strategy is that the neo-con conservatives like McCain, Graham, and McConnell want to put "lipstick on a pig" and not really change obamacare because, deep down, they want govt run healthcare.  If they can pass "obamacare lite" as Rand Paul called it, then they get all the glory/headlines for being "conservative", meanwhile the revised bill is essentially the same.

I think Rand would like to repeal and replace but he knows it won't happen, so he's trying to play hardball so that the revised bill is as conservative as possible.

  • Obamacare should be repealed and not replaced.  The Federal government can't even do its job which is to get the USA out of Trillion dollars of debt.

If healthcare was left to New Jersey, New York, Michigan etc , the corruption and rates would continue to rise for working class American citizens. Plus these states and politicians support crooked pharmaceutical companies and have stocks.

    Government controlled healthcare is communism.

Senator Rand Paul is trying to represent the people and country.
Senator MC Cain is part of the swamp in DC.
May God bless you and keep you

  • The trouble with Congress is that they do not release the complete bill while it is being voted on.
Not even the Senators and Representatives get to view the entire docuмent. This is criminal.
Then after the vote, we find all sorts of problems. This is what happened with the original Obamacare.
All the nefarious passages were hidden from us, and we are just beginning to find out how wicked Obamacare really is.

There needs to be more openness.
    Lord have mercy.

  • Thanks for the answers here, all of which I agree with.

I thought maybe it was just my imagination that the Rs wanted govt' controlled healthcare or what Rand calls Obamacare Lite

I should have known. I guess it is that "hope springs eternal" thing that keeps me thinking that some day the Rs will act like Rs

    God bless you, Rand Paul

Again, why all this sense of urgency and all this "last chance" rhetoric? Frankly, even though I have followed the healthcare issue for years and years now (and news in general) I still do not have 100% understanding of the way Congress passes/does not pass a bill... this 51% or 60% thing... I mean, I don't understand what makes it 51% needed rather than  60% needed.. (or I have forgotten... ?)

If anyone can explain this thing better, please help

    thanks
