  • Google Doodle is currently honoring Richard Oakes, by having a painting of him displayed on Google's search page.

Richard Oakes is a hero of the left, but he doesn't seem like much of a hero to me.  Richard Oakes abandoned his first wife and daughter, got his step daughter killed on Alcatraz Island and was shot and killed for violently attacking a YMCA camp manager.

Richard Oakes' short life seems to me to be characterized by irresponsibility, impulsivity and rage.  He certainly is not the sort of person I would pick for a role model or hero for anyone, let alone the millions of people who use Google search.
