  • Jeffrey V. Quigg, 30, consultant, Maryland Heights, Mo.

I'm a conservative and voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. I understood from the beginning how many of Obama's proposed policies would likely increase costs and taxes for me and my family, but I was so moved by Obama's story and his ability to inspire people that I volunteered for Obama's campaign anyway.

The Democratic party's beliefs contradict my own in very personal ways, but I happily supported Barack and did my best to share my support with others. This country needs a leader who can motivate people to take care of themselves, take care of their neighbors and to accept accountability. Barack is that leader.

If the American people put forth a fraction of the effort invested into both campaigns over the last two years, change will come to this country, change for the better. And if voter turnout was any indication of America's interest, it's easy to see we're headed in the right direction.

Barack Obama was the right decision for our country and I was proud to vote for him, proud to watch him accept victory, and proud to know I can share the experience with my grandkids someday.

I expected and even hoped my comments would stimulate some healthy debate and discussion.  I've received quite a bit of feedback all of which as been constructive up to this point.

I don't appreciate your dismissive "sheep" comment or how my story is somehow disturbing.  My comments are clear and my time and vote were spent and cast for the better leader, not necessarily for the better policies.  Ironically, I've been called a sheep or have been labeled "brainwashed" on many occasions, but for my faith rather than my political choices.

I agree times are frightening and evil certainly has an incredible impact on our modern world.  So, I will continue to pray to our Lord and ask for His will for our new president and for more of the inspiration to help others which I see on so many young faces.

I will continue to share my faith and support with my family so my children will know and will be empowered to make the right decisions for themselves.  I have found most people are more receptive to this approach versus being told what they must do by authorities, government or otherwise.

And interestingly enough, I've found more and more people, just recently, who are open-minded.  This by itself is worth my vote for Obama.  Perhaps your time would be better spent finding and reaching out to some of these people rather than labeling me.

  • This testimony is VERY disturbing. Did you read what he just said?

"The Democratic party's beliefs contradict my own in very personal ways" but he didn't just vote for him, he VOLUNTEERED for him!

Some people are really like sheep.

  • Do I need to give examples of brainwashed McCain supporters? No, I do not support Obama but these stories are idiotic.

  • I'm sure there are plenty.

But Obama has a cult around him that McCain could only dream about. People really think Obama is a messiah of some sort.

("Some sort" alright -- the FALSE kind!)

  • I did not mean to sound as if I were accusing you Mathew about the article you posted. I tend to be excitable. :) I realize that we are all Catholics trying to deal with an evil and satanic situation. We all need to pray our rosaries daily. The future is now very frightening.

"I was proud to vote for a socialist baby killer, proud to watch him accept victory, and proud to know I can share the experience with grandkids someday - especially when they hate me and everyone in my generation for electing him"

The support of Obama has been frantic, and ridiculous, blind, foolish and bigoted - but, oh, what is the new (old) phrase they are using to cover all those things, "open minded?"  Just like we have to be "open minded" to pathetic modern "art" -gimme a break.

What does that phrase "open-minded" essentially mean anyway?  It means that deep down you are a liberal - b/c there is not one truth for everyone, there are variations of the truth dependent on each individual person's perspective and that's what we have to keep an "open mind" to - accepting all truths as true for each person, despite the fact it is contradictory to one's own belief.

And here is a practical "duh" kind of circuмstance that that sort of thing leads to:  If there is no absolute truth and moral code and whatever personal beliefs a person has are valid and legitmate, fundamentally, justice and law cannot (as in it is not possible) exist.  You can't say that murder is illegal, drugs, rape, etc... none of it is unjust, it should all be allowed according to the "keep an open-mind" principle b/c "Charles Manson really believe that he was doing the right thing - he was just following his conscience, he was being true to himself."  Grandkids, JQ?  What grandkids?  Your beliefs will cause this nation to disintegrate into mass chaos before you can "share the experience" with them.  Maybe they will be the ones to be massacred on your pedestal of  "open-mindedness,"  maybe then you'll change your mind.

  • One thing to keep in mind --

Adolf Hitler was a strong leader, who was good at motivating people.

If Obama doesn't share your morals, and he's good at motivating people -- is that a good thing?

Sounds like it would be scary to me.
