  • Those are his sons?
The one with long hair looks sɛҳuąƖly confused.
Those must be the triplets and one other.

  • With all of his money I would assume he could afford a better tailor. He’s in Rome, the best tailors in the world are there!
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

I don't know...  why does money have to mean he dresses well?

  • His sons look terrible. Poor posture, ill fitting clothes and their hair is a mess. They do not look like they receive adequate care. Elon's suit is just as ill fitting

I'm going to be biased, having a son in that age cohort, but they look like fine young men to me.  Clothes fitting properly is always a challenge at that age.  (Elon has no excuse, heaven knows he could afford it.)

And my son's hair is that long.  As I said in another thread about the grooming of youth, of all the things in the world a father could worry about...  he's never been exposed to drugs, never smoked a cigarette, never drunk alcohol (aside from a sip of my beer on the rare occasion, which wasn't to his taste), never been in a situation where another young person could induce him to impurity... again, of all the things in the world a father could worry about...

And his clothes don't always fit right.  He's 15 and almost as tall as I am.

Surely, an ordinary person would dress their child in properly fitting clothing and make sure their hair was atequate if they were to meet someone in a distinguished position? This is a man who is supposed to hold the title of "Pope" which was instituted by Our Lord Himself.

So then, is it really fine that these boys whose father is not poor were sent out to meet Bergolio like this? Not at all.

Not sure about the others, but the one dressed in white definitely fits the bill.

I don't know the circuмstances surrounding the trip, and getting the boys ready to take it.  Teenagers' clothes, and how they are going to fit, are notoriously unpredictable, with growth spurts and whatnot.  Traveling with children and teenagers is a study in controlled chaos under the best of circuмstances, a fortiori if they are normal, active, rambunctious boys.  Oddly enough, on our past two trips to the beach (we have a resort we like, affordable, it's kind of a family tradition), we've gotten a suite, my son gets one room and I get the other smaller room (mine was little more than a glorified walk-in closet with a bed the last time, they stuck us in the older section), and both times, he's packed up all of his belongings to perfection when we left.

Their hair looks fine to me, a bit on the long side (especially one of the sons), but still typical of boys of that age.

If you’re talking about the boy second from the right, I’m at a loss. This begs the question, why would you allow him to have hair that long? Why would a boy want to have long hair? The clothes on the children I can understand, but the hair, nope.

Because he likes it, it is not sinful --- Jesus had long hair --- and I don't have an issue with it, any more than I would have an issue with a daughter who wanted a pixie cut, think Audrey Hepburn or Natalie Imbruglia (or St Joan of Arc for that matter).

Incidentally, "begging the question" --- petitio principii --- is an academic term, used in teaching rhetoric and logic, meaning that one fallaciously assumes the truth of the proposition they are making.  Not to be pedantic, but the idea you are looking for is "the question then is..." or "the question that then begs to be asked and answered".

…..And the great conservative popes, Gregory XVI, Venerable Pius IX, and Saint Pius X all had short hair.

You’re not being pedantic at all and I do and did understand the meaning of the term. You are correct if I had used the term in the classic sense, but I’m in the habit of using the term in the sense that you assumed above. Frankly, I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be used in that way since that string of words obviously conveyed my intention which  you clearly understood.

What’s interesting, the “academic term” is “begging the question” not “begs the question”. What are your thoughts?
