Surely, an ordinary person would dress their child in properly fitting clothing and make sure their hair was atequate if they were to meet someone in a distinguished position? This is a man who is supposed to hold the title of "Pope" which was instituted by Our Lord Himself.
So then, is it really fine that these boys whose father is not poor were sent out to meet Bergolio like this? Not at all.
I don't know the circuмstances surrounding the trip, and getting the boys ready to take it. Teenagers' clothes, and how they are going to fit, are notoriously unpredictable, with growth spurts and whatnot. Traveling with children and teenagers is a study in controlled chaos under the best of circuмstances,
a fortiori if they are normal, active, rambunctious boys. Oddly enough, on our past two trips to the beach (we have a resort we like, affordable, it's kind of a family tradition), we've gotten a suite, my son gets one room and I get the other smaller room (mine was little more than a glorified walk-in closet with a bed the last time, they stuck us in the older section), and both times, he's packed up all of his belongings to perfection when we left.
Their hair looks fine to me, a bit on the long side (especially one of the sons), but still typical of boys of that age.
