This 40 minute youtube video is very important.
Not only would excerpts from articles be prohibited by this new EU law, but also videos, photographs, and memes, which "stole intellectual property" from authors, would be banned unless royalties were paid or licenses obtained.

Copyright certainly has morphed into a form of censorship. It's 17th century law intended to protect book printers who took months to prepare a printing, so as to prevent others from preparing the same printings, which would result in wasted, duplicate work. Now that we can digitally copy things instantly, the original intention of the law is moot.
