  • ...Latin America is more diverse than many people think, it is as though various European (and other) nationalities came together, adopted Spanish as their language, and have combined many layers of Latin culture with their own, kind of like it was an alternate place to emigrate to, as opposed to North America.

In the south of Chile... Valdivia, Osorno, Puerto Varas, Puerto Montt... almost all enclaves of German ancestry who emigrated there all pre-Great War. Many German restaurants with menus in both German and Spanish.  German is still spoken in certain parts.

  • Not sure how the "immigrant" angle comes in here.  I did some digging, and Boric comes from a fairly large Croatian diaspora population in Punta Arenas.  Latin America is more diverse than many people think, it is as though various European (and other) nationalities came together, adopted Spanish as their language, and have combined many layers of Latin culture with their own, kind of like it was an alternate place to emigrate to, as opposed to North America.
One of the most famous people in Chile (and in Spanish-speaking US television for 50+ years) is a guy whose birth name is Mario Kreutzberger. He adopted a Spanish-sounding stage name because no one could bloody pronounce "Kreutzberger".
May you all have a fruitful and prayerful Holy Week

Oh, yes, Don Francisco from Sabado Gigante.

FWIW, he is also of the tribal persuasion.  Who knew?
