Biden begs Maduro for oil. It does not get more humiliating than this.

Why is the US doing this?  Are we so dependent upon Russian oil, that it is going to damage US interests to do without it?  Three percent?  That's nothing.

  • The Biden regime thinks that cutting itself from Russian oil will be a public relations victory. The problem for Uncle Joe is that Russia supplies the oil for most of Europe, so I don't believe it will have a significant impact on Vlad.

The delicious part of all this is that Venezuela has the second-highest reserves, the oil management is so bad, it is number one in pollution. Maduro's regime was on the verge of collapse, and along comes Uncle Joe to save the day.

  • Devil's advocate: Maybe if you start using their oil, it'll assuage some things there. They already use U.S. dollars there because the bolivar is worthless.

Venezuela wants to avoid having its own "special period"* because of overreliance, so we'll see what they do. Maybe they listen to the administration.

*"Special period" -- when the USSR imploded and nearly took Cuba with it, causing a decade-long recession and famine. It then turned to a certain Hugo Chávez and Vladimir Putin for help. The same thing could nearly happen as Venezuela relies on Russia while they're melting down. You can look it up, but there's starting to be *very small* economic gains, so maybe they don't want them to reverse.
