How in the world did this ad get clearance to run on, of all things, The View?
How in the world did this ad get clearance to run on, of all things, The View?Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it did, but either something slipped through the cracks, or TPTB thought it was so outrageous, that it would actually bring discredit to the pro-life movement (which it doesn't).
FCC law (from 1934) requires stations air federal candidates' ads uncensored. Terry is on the ballot as the Constitution Party presidential candidate in >10 states, so he can run political ads in all 50 states. They have to air them, else they lose their FCC license.
I don't know to what extent advertisers can dictate the program on which their spots will appear.
Trump's recent appeals to revoke the "license" of CBS
Freedom of speech is an American birthright.
Buyers determine that. The rates vary, but they can't charge one candidate more than another to run on the same show (equal access).
Maybe he was referring to their flagship station based in New York City, WCBS.
My point here was whether an advertiser can demand placement on a specific show, paying the rate for that show, and whether the network can tell them "no, we won't sell you a spot during that show, but we'll sell it to you on another one". If they are allowed to do that, they haven't refused to run an ad (in this case for a controversial political ad), they've just refused to air it on that particular show. Are they within their rights to do that?
No, they can't refuse to run political ads on some shows, and all candidates must have equal opportunity.
Makes me wish I had the money to fund this kind of thing
