  • Leon Eisenberg...guess what he is! Back when I was in school, the school system told my parents that I either went on Ritalin or I would be expelled. Unfortunately, this was back when it was unheard of to sue schools.

    http://www.worldpublicunion.org/2013-03-27-NEWS-inventor-of-adhd-says-adhd-is-a-fictitious-disease.html?

Inventor of ADHD'S deathbed confession: "ADHD is a fictitious disease"

Fortunately, the Swiss National Advisory Commission on Biomedical Ethics (NEK, President: Otfried Höffe) critically commented on the use of the ADHD drug Ritalin in its opinion of 22 November 2011 titled Human enhancement by means of pharmacological agents: The consumption of pharmacological agents altered the child’s behavior without any contribution on his or her part.

That amounted to interference in the child’s freedom and personal rights, because pharmacological agents induced behavioral changes but failed to educate the child on how to achieve these behavioral changes independently. The child was thus deprived of an essential learning experience to act autonomously and emphatically which “considerably curtails children’s freedom and impairs their personality development”, the NEK criticized.

The alarmed critics of the Ritalin disaster are now getting support from an entirely different side. The German weekly Der Spiegel quoted in its cover story on 2 February 2012 the US American psychiatrist Leon Eisenberg, born in 1922 as the son of Russian Jewish immigrants, who was the “scientific father of ADHD” and who said at the age of 87, seven months before his death in his last interview: “ADHD is a prime example of a fictitious disease”

Since 1968, however, some 40 years, Leon Eisenberg’s “disease” haunted the diagnostic and statistical manuals, first as “hyperkinetic reaction of childhood”, now called “ADHD”. The use of ADHD medications in Germany rose in only eighteen years from 34 kg (in 1993) to a record of no less than 1760 kg (in 2011) – which is a 51-fold increase in sales! In the United States every tenth boy among ten year-olds already swallows an ADHD medication on a daily basis. With an increasing tendency.

When it comes to the proven repertoire of Edward Bernays, the father of propaganda, to sell the First World War to his people with the help of his uncle’s psychoanalysis and to distort science and the faith in science to increase profits of the industry – what about investigating on whose behalf the “scientific father of ADHD” conducted science? His career was remarkably steep, and his “fictitious disease” led to the best sales increases. And after all, he served in the “Committee for DSM V and ICD XII, American Psychiatric Association” from 2006 to 2009. After all, Leon Eisenberg received “the Ruane Prize for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Research. He has been a leader in child psychiatry for more than 40 years through his work in pharmacological trials, research, teaching, and social policy and for his theories of autism and social medicine”.

ADHD Hoax And after all, Eisenberg was a member of the “Organizing Committee for Women and Medicine Conference, Bahamas, November 29 – December 3, 2006, Josiah Macy Foundation (2006)”. The Josiah Macy Foundation organized conferences with intelligence agents of the OSS, later CIA, such as Gregory Bateson and Heinz von Foerster during and long after World War II. Have such groups marketed the diagnosis of ADHD in the service of the pharmaceutical market and tailor-made for him with a lot of propaganda and public relations? It is this issue that the American psychologist Lisa Cosgrove and others investigated in their study Financial Ties between DSM-IV Panel Members and the Pharmaceutical Industry7. They found that “Of the 170 DSM panel members 95 (56%) had one or more financial associations with companies in the pharmaceutical industry. One hundred percent of the members of the panels on ‘Mood Disorders’ and ‘Schizophrenia and Other Psychotic Disorders’ had financial ties to drug companies. The connections are especially strong in those diagnostic areas where drugs are the first line of treatment for mental disorders.” In the next edition of the manual, the situation is unchanged. “Of the 137 DSM-V panel members who have posted disclosure statements, 56% have reported industry ties – no improvement over the percent of DSM-IV members.” “The very vocabulary of psychiatry is now defined at all levels by the pharmaceutical industry,” said Dr Irwin Savodnik, an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Los Angeles.

ADHD Hoax This is well paid. Just one example: The Assistant Director of the Pediatric Psychopharmacology Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School received “$1 million in earnings from drug companies between 2000 and 2007”. In any case, no one can easily get around the testimony of the father of ADHD: “ADHD is a prime example of a fictitious disease.”

The task of psychologists, educators and doctors is not to put children on the “chemical lead” because the entire society cannot handle the products of its misguided theories of man and raising children, and instead hands over our children to the free pharmaceutical market. Let us return to the basic matter of personal psychology and education: The child is to acquire personal responsibility and emphatic behavior under expert guidance – and that takes the family and the school: In these fields, the child should be able to lead off mentally. This constitutes the core of the human person.

  • Thumbs up for you Peter. I don't see how someone could down thumb your post, unless they have some vested interest in seeing you humiliated.

Thanks for posting this. I know psychiatry is nothing but a fraud, and what makes me furious is that psychiatrists are a secular authority, and they have influence over the church which goes according to their decisions.
It is the case that any one of the hundreds of millions of people on psych meds cannot join the church. We are like a growing army of people whom society has defecated upon. We are like a mass of slaves whose sole purpose in life is to feed an industry by being customers. This is one of the greatest evils of society. Psychiatry has destroyed my life and made me live under an unjust tyranny. I will not recount personal stories here, but I could be forgiven for thinking that the psych services had more powers than the police.
They're a goddamn mafia of thought control atheists, and there is none to help the likes of us. If people wonder why my posts are so juvenile even though I am 28, perhaps blame the mind altering meds I am forced to take, and blame all the pain and all the hurt caused by those who interact with me in real life. All my family has betrayed me and used psychiatry as a weapon against me. I am forced to take meds because I was too extreme of a Catholic. God will vindicate me in the next life. The just will stand before the wicked and accuse them of all their persecutions, and the wicked will bear their sentence and go to hell. This topic makes me emotional, but it is not a disease to get angry at injustice. May some influential religious person take pity on me and give me a way out of life long slavery. Let no one say the meds are not dangerous. They are made of 100% brain poison.
I had to write a letter today, when I read it it was incoherent and my handwriting was all over the place and barely legible. This crap is killing me.

  •  :dancing-banana:"Ain't it great to be....(boom boom)....CRAY-ZEE?"

Okay, now to be serious.  Experience as a teacher tells me MOST children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD are not mentally or physically ill.  The large majority are in need of discipline, having never been taught or required to have self-control.  Many are boys whom the female dominated public education system demands act and learn like girls.  A very few may have actual physical/mental problems.  The wide-spread use of psychotropic medications is nothing more than abuse.  Yes, Ritalin and like drugs do have a calming effect, but at what cost?  Pumping children full of tranquilizers and anaesthetics would be equally effective.  The generation of ADHD kids of the 1980s have grown into ADHD adults who still lack self-control.  When a person is motivated to control himself, he usually does so.  I worked with an "ADHD" man of 28.  When a co-worker annoyed him, he "couldn't help himself" from becoming hysterical and verbally abusive.  Strangely, whenever a supervisor was present, he got down to work like everyone else!
A child whom two teachers declared " needs to be on medication" behaved just fine for me after a few disciplinary measures were taken.  He is now on medication and nonetheless "walks all over" his fifth grade teacher.  Despite academic ability, he makes Cs and D's.  At home, he does as he pleases because his mother can't or won't discipline him.  The fact that there is no father present doesn't help.  He is the victim not of an illness, but of a broken home.
I don't discount all mental illness, but we are too quick to let others and ourselves off the hook in favor of medicating away the problems caused by Original Sin.  ADHD is one condition that I believe is largely a creation of modern psychiatry.  Unless a person is truly not in reality or has had a mental breakdown, drugs are no solution.
BTW-  Soulguard, nobody is kept from becoming a Catholic because of mental illness, real or manufactured!  Nowadays, St. Peter would be said to be "ADHD" and St. Thomas on Prozac for depression!

  • Yeah well just remember that every saint could have been diagnosed with a mental illness and given meds ( if they lived in this time).

I am cursed before men but blessed by God.
In a way I am fortunate to be an outcast of society, it makes me realise that society and all it stands for is worthless vanity.

  • These were some comments on FB where I originally saw this article. I completely agree with these...

It is just ants in the pants. Little boys and even active little girls are not meant to sit in a class all day.Of course they get stir crazy. Add insult to injury, the school day and year is too long and the academic environment too feminized.

Dog Whisperer's formula for dogs also works with children. Exercise--have to burn off that energy before they will sit still.Even many delusional and physically lethargic conservative parents think they can force children to be calm. Then discipline---Not punishment but discipline in the sense of in learning new material or being trained in a task. Finally, affection another name for a reward.

8 hour school days are unnatural and horrible for children.

  • Soulguard, I want to be among the first to wish you very well, indeed. I am among those who, unknowingly, tried to correct some of your posts for what I perceived as a form of egocentrism in your theological opinions. I hope that when you read those remarks you could sense that I was also trying to cast them in the light of a grudging respect for your intelligence - which I see, given what you've just admitted here on this forum, is as considerable as I first sensed.

I agree strongly with your diagnosis of the hellish state of psychiatric praxis. I am remotely aware, these days, that it's only grown worse since my own efforts to help a friend who was caught up in it back in the 1980s, a victim of medical stupidity involving excessive steroid therapy in the treatment of an underlying auto-immunological disease. My search for someone to step in and halt the ongoing malpractice led me to speak with the late Dr. Thomas Szasz, a psychiatrist affiliated with the NY State Univ. system and famous critic of psychiatry as it was being "practiced" at that time.

You may wish to start your search for assistance by checking out what may contain some factual information about his work, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Szasz

Another possible source of some direction might be, believe it or not, one Dr. Ray Guarendi, a clinical psychologist in Ohio who has TV and radio programs on the EWTN network. I have heard him often enough (he can be VERY funny as well as insightful) to sense that he, too, would be sympathetic to your own comments and professionally equipped to offer you some practical guidance from a Catholic perspective (he's not a Trad, of course.) Nevertheless, his outlook is suspicious concerning the over-diagnosis phenomenon and I am quite sure he would be objective and empathetic in your case.

You can contact him on the web @ http://drray.com/ (use the "contact" button to write him.)

Those are two points of departure for you and I hope they help.

You do have friends here and I hope you will come to find that I intend to be one of them.

Most important, don't lose your sense of humor.

In NYC, four and five year olds are sometimes in school for 13 hours.  If they are dropped off at 6:30am for Before Care and picked up at 7:30pm when the After Care program ends, that's more than half the day.  These children eat three meals at school and do their homework at school.  All they do at home Mon.-Fri. is bathe and sleep.  We teachers do our best, but we cannot replace a home life with parents and siblings.  It's sad reality.  Right now, a six year old girl who has been at school since 6:45 this morning is asleep on a gym mat.  She has been running a fever since noon and won't get picked up for an hour.  Her mother works in Connecticut and is raising two children alone.  Her husband abandoned his family and returned to his native India. Mom is an only child whose parents are deceased.  This is the world created by feminism.  The children suffer, but know nothing else, therefore, don't know it is not normal.  And we wonder why they're inattentive and unmotivated!!!!!ADHD??????

    Couldn't agree more.

I blame the evil of feminism for the moral oblivion we live in.  As women go, so goes the family, so goes society,  and thus civilization.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

Must take a break to pack Maggie's dinner and school bag.  Her Mom will be here in five minutes.  If she eats at all tonight, it'll be in the car on the way home.  Unless extremely unwell, she'll be back at school in about 11 hours.  Yes, Maggie has trouble concentrating in class.  I can't imagine why.  Must be she has ADHD and needs to be on Ritalin.
    (I'm being sarcastic.)
