  • Wine was mentioned in another thread so I thought I'd open up one just for favorite wines.

I prefer wines from small, local wineries.  Every state I go to I look for a local wine.

In NC there is Huffman Vineyards.  Their Carolina Sunshine is a nice white table wine although it is a bit on the sweet side but since I do not like dry wines it suits me.

I don't have a favorite red, but I do like Merlot.

Anyone else have a favorite small winery?

    Marsha

I'm pretty sure every state has one. Even Alaska.

I'm not picky about wine. I just buy the cheap stuff. Like the Charles Shaw ("3 buck chuck") wine that's sold at Trader Joes.

I think I told you this before, but my father is one of those arrogant wine connoisseurs. Not a complete wannabe: he has a fairly large cellar and travels to taste wine. I'm more like you, in fact I drink table wine almost on principle.

Yes, I remember. Some people have taste buds that can detect a dramatic difference in quality between wines.

Fortunately, for my wallet, I'm not one of them!

  • Italy has lots of good cheap wines. My wife is the fussy one, she's Spaniard, personally, if it's wet and red and has booze in it, I am all over it. In Catholic moderation, of course.

  • I'll admit, I can be snobby about wine.

We order cases from Lanthier Winery in Indiana for the holidays and a couple times throughout the year. It's great wine, but pretty affordable.

  • Speaking of wine, I just got a new wine making kit in the mail. If all goes well we'll be drinking mulberry wine in a couple months! Next is wild plum.

  • Port!
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • With Port, the more you pay the better it gets. 25 bucks will get you a nice bottle.

  • There's a variety of spiced wine in Quebec known as Caribou. Heartening during the winter.

Here's a homestyle recipe for a poutine 'typiquement Quebecoise':

    -potato wedges
    -white cheese curds
    -petit pois
    -foie gras gravy

Wash that down with mulled wine.

  • I usually drink Italian wine, preferably red.

However, during my visits to Eastern Europe, I drank typical red wine from towns that had the same name: Melnik.

I'm not sure if this wine is exported but it was great to the palate.

  • Stones' Ginger Wine!

My husband used to make all his own wines using whatever fruit was plentiful/cheap. Mango, pawpaw, banana, orange, even grapes. We found the best was pineapple. It was like a sparkling champagne.

Nowadays he buys 5 litre casks which are very economical and keep because they remain airtight. http://www.aussieliquor.com.au/showProduct/Wine/Casks+5+Litre/9310578501337
