Health issues and other problems associated with cigarette smoking are attributable to multitudinous chemicals placed in tobacco by manufacturers. They are chemically designed to be "addictive". Consider growing your own tobacco - I do, all natural. It's not that difficult and you do not even need a large garden to do it. Grow in pots. Also, nicotine as such has plenty of benefits - insecticide, etc.
I've been in the presence of an older gentleman who would smoke his pipe using pure tobacco, and it was actually quite pleasant and relaxing, and did not bother me at all like cigarettes do. I believe nicotine is actually vitamin B3 (niacin), and is therefore a source of health benefits, such as supporting the nervous system.

After the last 2 nights I've went through I can't imagine why I'd do it again. I went to the ER, thank God I'm at 98% lung capacity. I have been buying my own "natural" as natural can be, from my corner store and rolling it myself. Certainly doesn't feel as bad as a name brand cigarette, but I'm done altogether. I am done experiencing the benefits. Most difficult thing I've quit in my lifetime, the 6th commandment was far easier, so was marijuana. Both are far more painful & damaging to many, and I was able to quit nicotine. Puts a new mindset on everything now. Whatever you choose you can do. Free will is a beautiful thing.

I’m blessed. Tobacco, alcohol, and drugs never appealed to me. Those who did them in middle school, high school, college, and into adulthood seemed to be slaves to them.  Or else they thought it made them look mature! I tried a cigarette once. It was nasty. Getting plastered, did that once; never again!  Marijuana, made me feel like I was seeing, hearing, breathing through a long tube of Saran Wrap. Never tried anything stronger.

I'm sorry to hear about the rough time you had, blessed be God you came through it alright! Indeed, free will is a beautiful thing.

The buzz is a lie. The dopamine is a lie. The cortisol makes me shiver and my face puff up like a zombie. My eyes look gray, my skin never leaves razor bumps until I've been smoking. The immune system weakness. I have been smoking cigarettes, a pipe, cigars, black n milds, friends' vapes and chewed gum. The gum is the one with the least side effects, and feels the best. Cigarettes and swishers from a gas station are the worst. Regardless I'm done with all of it. I feel uninspired. I feel like a megalomaniac billionaire. I am put in a state of drive momentarily at the cost of my spirit.

How many of you have fallen into the trap of smoking? How many are in it and denying it? How many of you do other things like eat cake and play video games? Or waste your time with money? It's not good for you. In a world where there's nothing left to do, false dopamine isn't the answer. I've got weights and they work way better. Tending to my cat and potatoes work too.
I am a former smoker. Congratulations for quitting, this is excellent news for your health, but also for your friends and for your family as well.

Don't worry, there is never "nothing left to do". Read the Bible, read the Catechism, pray to God, do the Rosary every day. If you have the time, read a good biography written on a Saint that you like.

Read about your country's history and the legacy from your ancestors. Even if they are not Catholic, there is often something worthwhile in it. Keep the good, get rid of the bad.

Even if most living people in 2026 are fools who forgot God, we have access to infinite knowledge on the internet. We are quite privileged to be able to read the works of any theologian of our choice , at any time of the day.

Once you get started on doing something worthwhile, it's quitting that becomes hard!
