  • This sounds like what we call "Fire Cider".  We made some last year and have it in store in jars.  I actually forgot we had it because it is high enough in the cupboard that it is above my eye level. 🤣

I managed to get my husband to take it but before but so far haven't managed to get my boys to take any...  😅
"Fire Cider" sounds like an appropriate name alright lol  - Dr. Schultze sells the stuff as "Super Tonic" for like $10 an ounce or something.

  • Boil garlic, ginger, raw honey, lemon or lime to make tea.

Watch out for gummie stuff because they are loaded with sugar.

When I had Covid, I would eat a small amount of horse radish out of the jar.

    Stuborn’s recipe looks good.
My husband and I have been squeezing fresh lemons adding honey and mixing with hot water.  That has helped us a lot and is definitely something that our older son will taste but usually he doesn't like hot drinks very much.  I should try again.  🤔

I checked and the Vitamin D gummies I give him are very low on sugar.  Good reminder though to check on that sort of thing!  Thank you!

I am looking forward to the day when the little boys will be able to take swallowable supplements and vitamins and more bitter tonics. 😅

When we were growing up my mother used to give us grapefruit seed extract and it would knock out any sickness...but man was it terrible tasting. 🤣

Oh, wow!!! That is expensive!  I missed the price...

One of the ladies at our healthfood store was talking with me about tinctures about a year ago (I was getting comfrey root to make some at home) and mentioned fire cider to me and I decided to make some.  Glad I didn't try to buy it. 😅

  • I heard you can make your own gummies and just put in vitamin drops.
That is a great idea!!!  I have wanted to try and make vitamins and many other things from home but haven't quite gotten the courage to try it yet. 😅🤣

  • And chicken noodle soup with fresh extra onion and garlic finely minced helps a lot.
I don't know how it got that name, it's a funny coincidence. Coptis is extremely bitter and powerful. It really does turn hot dry symptoms cool and moist. Putting it in juice can help hide the bitterness.
Good reminder about chicken soup!  I tried last night but added a little thickener so it wouldn’t be a mess for the boys eating it (more like stew on rice).  The youngest two LOVED it but the older son mostly ate just rice.  🤣

  • I suggest to get some homeopathy remedies.  And also use colloidal silver.  (also, someone mentioned garlic/honey, which are both natural antiseptics, like silver).  I had this cough a few years ago.  The above helped me more than anything else.
Oh!  I had totally forgotten about colloidal silver!  I have it on my Amazon wishlist but never ordered it.  Thank you for mentioning that!  :cowboy:

  • Harder to find, and more expensive than it used to be, but my go-to: https://www.chartreuse.fr/en/produit/vegetable-elixir/
Probably best diluted in some juice or tea or honey for the little ones.
Green Chartreuse as a 2nd choice.
I love Chartreuse!  Haven't had any in ages.  The closest I have seen around at the alcohol store near me is Yagermeister.  I used to dream of making my own...  But I havent quite mastered the herbs enough myself.  We do grow most of ours that we use in cooking at home now though.  Maybe
    one day...  😅

  • EarthClinic is a great resource where people share what has worked for their families.

    https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/whooping-cough.html

    Natural Remedies for Whooping Cough
Each of the following remedies can be used to encourage one of the above 5 keys.
    Apple Cider Vinegar
A standby for many illnesses, apple cider vinegar helps to alkalize the body. Vinegar tea is the best way to take apple cider vinegar for pertussis. A hot drink soothes coughing. Tea is hydrating. And apple cider vinegar has helpful vitamins and minerals as well.
    Vinegar Tea
    6 ounces hot water
    • 1 Tablespoon raw and organic apple cider vinegar
    • 1 Tablespoon raw honey (except for children under one year)
    • Mix together in a mug and drink as desired.
    Mullein
Mullein leaf is a “go to” herb to sooth a cough and thin mucous. A strong mullein infusion can be consumed liberally all through the day. To make a quart of mullein infusion (strong tea) add ¼ cup loosely packed dried mullein leaves to a quart jar. Pour hot water over the mullein leaves. Allow to steep at least 15 minutes up to several hours. Strain with a coffee filter. (Mullein must be strained well due to the irritating hairs!) Sweeten with honey (except for children under a year old.) Honey has antibacterial and healing properties.
    Vitamin C
As many as 80 years ago vitamin C was observed to be useful in reducing the paroxysm of whooping cough!3
Currently Dr. Suzanne Humphries is a leader in promoting the vitamin C protocol for whooping cough. Anyone dealing with whooping cough would do very well to study her protocol.
Dr. Humphries protocol4 uses high doses of vitamin C in the sodium ascorbate form to help neutralize the toxins released by the pertussis bacteria. She also observes that it helps to keep the mucous thin and easier to cough up.
To follow the protocol, the following amounts of vitamin C are suggested:
Weight in Pounds  Amount of Vitamin C Per Day
    20 pounds                1,700 - 3,400 mg
    30 pounds                2,500 - 5,000 mg
    60 pounds                5,00 10,000 mg
    75 pounds                6,500 13,000 mg
    100 pounds              8,500 17,000 mg
    125 pounds              10,000 - 20,000 mg

Ideally the dose is divided up and given as many as 10-12 times a day
    Vitamin D
If daily sunshine is possible it is a good way to get some vitamin D. A vitamin D supplement is also helpful to ensure that this needed vitamin is in the body. Pertussis is less common and less severe in the warmer, sunnier months, quite possibly due to better reserves of vitamin D in the body during these seasons.
    Zinc
Zinc is needed for the immune system to work optimally.
    Humidify
Dry air makes a cough more uncomfortable. A humidifier or vaporizer can be used to keep the air comfortable.
    Healing Baths
A warm bath with baking soda can be a comforting and healing distraction for a child with whooping cough. Simply add 1 cup baking soda to a warm bath of water. For an extra steamy and humid bath, fill the tub with hot water from the shower (it will cool some as it has lengthy contact with air on its way to the tub.)

Thank you for sharing this, Cera!  Lots of really good information here!  I really should up the Vitamin C dosage that our oldest son is taking since that is one of the few things which I can get him to willingly take. 😅

I gave him zinc chewable a couple of times but I really should be giving him those more regularly as well.

We have all natural horehound drops that we give him when the coughing is bad.  I should try and get him some honey and peppermint tea as well.

And he likes his kombucha even when it is turning vinegar or "strong" as he calles it.  So, that probably similar to the apple cider vinegar.

Thank you again EVERYONE so much for all the tips and suggestions!  Lots of things to try that I hadn't thought of!  May God bless you!

  • 2g of sugar per serving? How heavy is a serving of gummies? That will tell you the percentage of sugar, not like a couple grams here and there matters.

I think vitamin C is best had in the morning or it could make sleeping difficult. Vitamin D could wait until evening, and may improve sleep quality.

Right!  A serving is 2.  So the sugar level is 1g per gummie.

Good to know about when to take the Vitamin C and and D.  I didn't know that. :cowboy:

The only place I have seen it available to buy it in person is in a store in NY.  I think that in general one has to buy it online from over seas and have it shipped.
