  • Dr. Batmanghelidj wrote a book entitled "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" which demonstrated how chronic dehydration effects the body.

I've read that we should drink 1 oz of water (tea and coffee don't count) for every 2 lbs of body weight but I have a hard time drinking that much every day.  Does anyone here drink that much?

I think if I drank that much I would be swimming out the door.

  • I read that book a long time ago - it's a good book.

For me, that equates to roughly 11 or 12 glasses of purified water per day - I probably do that or more only occasionally, on average, I probably drink about 8 or 9 glasses a day pretty easily. Just start out slow and work your way up over the span of a month or two - it's not really as big of a deal as it might sound.

It helps if you can get in the habit of keeping a bottle of water with you all the time - which for me is easy. Also, drinking a full glass or more 10-15 minutes before eating is a great habit to get into.

One thing to remember is that if you are going to drink a lot of water, steer clear of tap water and only drink purified or some type of filtered water.

  • Well. . . if you're going to drink that much water, you might as well sprinkle in some xylitol habitually and keep your teeth healthier too.

I actually saw Zellie's mints at the supermarket the other day.
    Sincerely,

    Shin

  • My thyroid is a(n unofficial) mess and I really need to get off tap water as I saw that our Brita does not remove fluoride.

What kind of water do you all drink? I'm seeing conflicting reports on whether bottled water is safe and/or has fluoride.

  • Im my opinion, the best water to drink comes from a reverse osmosis filter system.
It filters out 90+ percent of inorganic minerals, flouride, chlorine, and pesticides.  Have to get a good one.  Culligan is one of the best out there.  The system is installed under your sink.

All the different mints, right there in the toothpaste isle. I was looking for a new toothbrush. Prices a bit higher than her website, but they were Zellie's alright -- I thought, "What do you know?"

I don't use the mints anymore normally m'self, one bag of xylitol is lasting me forever, so that's more cost effective, since you just sprinkle a tiny bit in the water.

I was using that dental hygeine protocol, but the Closys seemed to cause cold sores, which I've neevr had before, and stopped as soon as I stopped using it, and no other mouthwash ever did that (I use Listerine and ACT already, and at times, gargle with peroxide. None of those cause cold sores for nearly 2 decades).

I"m curious, why can't tea or cofee count? The two are exclusively water, with the residue of tea leaves extracted. In fact, even soda is mostly water (with plenty of additives of course). Coca Cola is pretty much sugar water. Still, it IS water; do these additives have a dehydrating affect, in which it is not profitable to drink 8 oz of tea, hydration-wise?

  • I would think people who are sedentary don't have to drink nearly as much water as active people.

It is profitable to drink 8 oz of tea, yes.

Some say that coffee and tea (with caffeine) are diuretics, and they would be correct. However, a couple of glasses of coffee or tea would be a very weak diuretic. In other words, they are not going to off set your water intake. Indeed, they will add to it.

But still, drinking a lot of plain water is the way to go. And herbal teas.

  • That's too bad Iuvenalis, I'm thankful I don't have that issue. The Closys doesn't cause a bad reaction for me thankfully.

Rather than drinking so many glasses of water a day..

Someday I will however, if I can get ahold of a less expensive used system, try the alkaline water routine and see if it does any good.
    Sincerely,

  • We use the Berkey water filters.  I bought the Big Berkey from pleasanthillgrains dot com.

As far as not counting tea or coffee I assume that is because they are not "just" water but are beverages that many add milk and sugar to, not that you can't drink those things too, you just can't count them toward your "water" quota. Just like you wouldn't count milk or wine.

Dr. B doesn't say NOT to drink other beverages, but just make sure you get the pure water in to properly hydrate your body.

The two are not exclusively water.

I was troubled with arthritis and read a very old book (1930's I think) about same which suggested that tea (along with other things) can exacerbate arthritis. At the time I gave up tea, meat and sugar and the arthritis disappeared. Eventually I went back on meat and sugar but found that the culprit was tea.

Now I never drink it. When I tried it again - instant arthritis.

I heard later that tea, camellia sinensis, is a plant that contains largish quantities of fluoride.  Imagine, I was adding fluoride to fluoridated water.
