Actually, it is not that expensive as it contains 6-count x 48 oz Resalable bags
With six bags each containing 1.5 pounds, that is a lot of flour.
This is okay for a large family, but for a retired couple, those bags could become rancid or infested with beetle larvae.
.
Okay, so it's $69.99 / 6 = $11.67 for each 48 oz bag. That's where the $0.243 an ounce comes from. Thanks for the reminder!
.
I would expect this 6-pack case concept is for wholesale or distributors, so if you just want one bag you need maybe 5 neighbors to pool resources.
.
If Costco stocks this, they would have individual bags for sale.
*.
To prevent the beetle larvae, put the unused bag(s) in the freezer, and squeeze the air out of opened bags (less oxygen = stays fresher).

*This "quantity of 6" reminds me --- I was at Costco the other day, and they had pomegranates there in 6-count molded plastic trays. The trays were not plastic-wrapped so you could take individual fruits out and inspect them. One tray had 7 pomegranates in it, one setting on top of the 6. I looked around and saw there was no other tray with one fruit missing. So
I took the extra pomegranate with me to the checkout register to ask if it would be possible for me to buy just this one fruit, since there was no place for it in the stockpile. The cashier told me no, that I would have to buy a whole tray of 6, since they have no way of ringing up the sale of just one pomegranate, the minimum system quantity being designated as a tray of 6 fruits. "Would you like someone to go get 6 for you? she asked." I said, "No, thank you." There is a quasi-manager hanging around in the exit aisle after you pass through the registers, so I asked him if there was any way for me to buy just one pomegranate, and he gave me the same excuse that they can only sell 6 at a time, that's the minimum. I asked him what they're going to do with one pomegranate when all the trays are full and he had no answer. "The smallest quantity is 6 pomegranates," he replied. Their price was around $16.80 for the tray of 6. So you'd expect one fruit would be $2.80 -- which is considerably more than $1.50 at the nearby Vallarta. I'll admit the Costco pomegranates are larger. So it was impossible for me to try out Costco pomegranates unless I spend nearly $17.
Now, I just went online to see what Costco's availability is for fresh pomegranates (they're in season right now) and found that
absolutely NO Costco website offers any information at all about fresh pomegranates, whether it's price, stock, locations, availability, packaging or size!
The only pomegranate item found at Costco online is
"Pomegranate-flavored 5-hour ENERGY." -- minimum order, 24-count! $32.99 -- That's twice as expensive as a tray of fresh fruit, but hey, it's got a much longer shelf-life!!!
