U.S. Life Expectancy Drops Amid Rising ѕυιcιdє, Drug Overdose Rates
Posted: 08 Aug 2019 07:40 AM PDT
Life expectancy in the United States has dropped 2 years in a row. Yikes.
In this piece, I’d like to cover the in-depth reports outlining 2017, and then we will get into the overview for 2018 in the next piece. Three reports from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that in 2017, it was the longest decline in U.S. life expectancy at birth since World War I. Sadly, the dismal reports show that rising ѕυιcιdє and drug overdose rates were among the main contributors to the decline.

Between 1915 and 1918, WWI and a flu pandemic killed 675,000 people in the U.S. and an estimated 50 million people worldwide. That was the last time there was such a startling drop in the number of years Americans could expect to live. In most developed nations, life expectancy has continued to climb over the decades.

The reports suggest that American society is quite sick.
Dr. Robert Redfield, CDC director, said: [2]

Quote
“Life expectancy gives us a snapshot of the Nation’s overall health and these sobering statistics are a wakeup call that we are losing too many Americans, too early and too often, to conditions that are preventable.”

Joshua M. Sharfstein, vice dean for public health practice and community engagement at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said: [1]

Quote
“I think this is a very dismal picture of health in the United States. Life expectancy is improving in many places in the world. It shouldn’t be declining in the United States.”

S.V. Subramanian, a professor of population health and geography at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, asked:

Quote
“After 3 years of stagnation and decline, what do we do now? Do we say this is the new normal? Or can we say this is a tractable problem?”

An American born in 2017 can expect to live 78.6 years at birth, down 1/10 of a year from 2016, according to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. Men can expect to live 76.1 years, down 1/10 of a year from 2016. Life expectancy for women remains unchanged from 2016, at 81.1 years.
Drugs are Still Doing Americans In
The overall number of fatal drug overdoses rose from 63,632 in 2016 to 70,237 in 2017 – an annual record. Opioids sold on the street caused 47,600 overdoses in 2017 – another record, driven largely by an increase in fentanyl deaths. President Donald Trump declared the opioid crisis a national emergency in August, 2017 [2]
The number of fatal drug overdoses has more than quadrupled since 1999. Deaths from opioids were nearly 6 times greater in 2017 than they were in 1999.
There was no increase in overdose deaths from legal painkillers in 2017. As well, heroin overdoses did not rise. Robert Anderson, chief of the mortality statistics branch at the Center for Health Statistics, said that efforts to keep legal painkillers off the streets and out of the hands of drug dealers, as well as prescription drug monitoring programs, may have contributed to the steady numbers.
Source: CDC
Authorities have been cracking down on so-called “pill mills,” unscrupulous doctors, and states have been going after drug companies that belched out suspicious amounts of pills to states hardest hit by the opioid epidemic.
Anderson also credits the wider availability of the opioid antidote naloxone, efforts to educate substance abusers as they leave jail, more treatment programs, and expanded Medicaid programs for the lack of an increase in legal opioid and heroin overdoses.
As 2018 draws to a close, provisional data for the first 4 months of the year hints at a plateau in overdoses and possibly a slight decline.
But the plateau in heroin deaths doesn’t necessarily mean fewer people are dying from hard drugs. According to Sharfstein, it reflects the fact that fentanyl has overtaken heroin on the illicit drug market.
In fact, the reports show that fentanyl-related deaths climbed from 19,413 in 2016 to 28,466 in 2017.
Source: CDC
Yet, despite all this death and chaos, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently decided to approve a powerful new opioid that is 5 to 10 times more potent than fentanyl.
West Virginia continues to lead the nation in overdose deaths, followed by Ohio, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, the data show. The state least affected by drug overdoses was Nebraska, where there were just 8.1 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 residents. By comparison, West Virginia had 57.8 overdose deaths per 100,000 residents.
Yikes.
Life Expectancy Cut Short … on Purpose
Source: CDC
As doctors and researchers work to find ways to expand Americans’ life expectancy, it seems that many Americans simply want to “check out” and do so by taking their own life.
ѕυιcιdє has been the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. for the last decade, increasing from 10 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000 people in 1999 to 14 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000 people in 2017. Female ѕυιcιdєs increased more sharply than male ѕυιcιdєs, though more men than women die by ѕυιcιdє each year.
Between 1999 and 2017, the male ѕυιcιdє rate increased by 26% – from about 18 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000 to almost 22 per 100,000.
The ѕυιcιdє rate among women during that period rose from 4 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000 to nearly 6 per 100,000, or 53%. Women between the ages of 45 and 64 experienced the highest ѕυιcιdє rates in both 1999 (6 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000) and 2017 (nearly 10 ѕυιcιdєs per 100,000).
Source: CDC
ѕυιcιdє rates in rural counties were significantly higher than in urban counties.
Redfield said:

Quote
“We must all work together to reverse this trend and help ensure that all Americans live longer and healthier.”

He added that the CDC “is committed to putting science into action and to protect U.S. health.”
This news is obviously unfortunate, but hopefully with more awareness being risen around the country, we can collectively take measures improve quality of life across the board.

Olive oil, just once a week, can lower your risk of a blood clot
Posted: 08 Aug 2019 07:37 AM PDT
Consuming olive oil once a week reduces the risk of forming arterial blood clots in obese adults. In a new study, researchers from the New York University School of Medicine found that olive oil consumption lowers platelet activity in obese adults.
Platelets are small blood cell fragments that form clumps when activated. When a blood vessel gets damaged, platelets rush to the site of injury to form clots and stop the bleeding. However, as beneficial as they are, these platelets also contribute to the buildup of plaques in the arteries, which leads to a condition called atherosclerosis.
According to Sean Heffron, lead author of the study, atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of most heart attacks and strokes.
Regular intake of olive oil prevents excessive platelet aggregation
Using food frequency surveys, the researchers determined how often 63 obese, nonsmoking, and non-diabetic participants with an average BMI of 44.1 consumed olive oil. They found that those who consumed olive oil once a week had lower platelet activation than those who ate olive oil less often. Moreover, participants who ate olive oil more frequently had the lowest amount of platelet aggregation.
The researchers believe that, aside from the antioxidants found in olive oil, its anti-platelet effect is linked to its molecular structure. (Related: Olive oil is the healthiest choice when it comes to frying food, study finds.)
“People who are obese are at increased risk of having a heart attack, stroke or other cardiovascular event, even if they don’t have diabetes or other obesity-associated conditions. Our study suggests that choosing to eat olive oil may have the potential to help modify that risk, potentially lowering an obese person’s threat of having a heart attack or stroke,” said Heffron.
The researchers presented their preliminary findings at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention/Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Scientific Session 2019 in Houston.Co-author Ruina Zhang further explained: “To our knowledge, this is the first study to assess the effects of dietary composition, olive oil specifically, on platelet function in obese patients.”
Foods typically consumed on the Mediterranean Diet
Olive oil is a key component of the Mediterranean Diet, which promotes heart health. This diet is based on the traditional foods that people from Italy and Greece ate during the 1960s. The Mediterranean Diet involves a high intake of healthy, plant-based foods and minimal consumption of animal-based foods. The list below includes some of the common foods people on the Mediterranean Diet eat.

White supremacy paranoia is a massive HOAX perpetrated by the toxic media that pushes hatred, bigotry and lawlessness
Posted: 08 Aug 2019 07:33 AM PDT
Though the Left has been seething with animosity over what it perceives as America’s ‘white-dominated’ society for years, in the lead-up to the 2020 election they have come out and made hating white people an official platform of the Democratic Party. And shame on the party’s officials and leaders for allowing it to happen.
In particular, the hatred is manifested in the establishment media-created and driven lie that a) “white supremacy” and “white nationalism” are one in the same; b) both are a major problem; and c) white supremacists are everywhere (especially at rallies held by POTUS Donald Trump).
It’s all a fabrication, mind you. The fact is we probably couldn’t fill a college football stadium with the number of actual, avowed “white supremacists” in America, and in a nation of nearly 330 million people that’s saying something.
On his Fox News program Tuesday, Tucker Carlson took on this socially destructive and politically divisive false narrative, labeling it the latest Democrat-derived fabrication being employed ahead of next year’s elections after the Robert Mueller investigation failed to drive POTUS from office.
White supremacy “actually is not a real problem in America,” Carlson began, noting that it’s “a hoax” and “a conspiracy theory used to divide the country.”

11.2K people are talking about this

Democrats have really gone into overdrive with the ‘white supremacist/white nationalist’ lie following the El Paso, Texas, shooting last weekend. It didn’t take long at all for the media to blame the president’s “divisive, anti-immigrant rhetoric” for the incident once it was reported that the shooter wrote a manifesto blaming a “Hispanic invasion” in part for his act (never mind that he also specifically said that his feelings towards Hispanics “predated” the Trump presidency).
“Almost everything the Left says today is projection,” , pointing out that while they claim to be opposed to violence, they have no problems wishing for violence to be inflicted on Republican leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, where one protester who showed up to his home following his shoulder fracture this week vocally wished for someone to “stab him in the heart.”
Democrats are spreading a “disgusting” message of “hate”
“In almost every single case they accuse you of exactly what they’re doing,” Carlson continued.
“In the wake of two mass shootings, they’ve been telling us the president is a hater. ‘He’s using race to divide us!’ they scream. ‘It’s wrong!’ Well, they’re right about the second part, it’s definitely wrong. But using race to divide us? That’s a core tenet of the Left,” Carlson noted further.
The Fox News host said that today’s Democrat Party uses “identity politics” to sort of divide and conquer the electorate, but that doing so means taking the fragile social fabric of a multicultural society and ripping it to shreds. (Related: Texas rep, brother of 2020 Dem candidate Joaquin Castro, ‘doxes’ Trump campaign supporters on Facebook.)
He then played clips of two 2020 Democratic presidential contenders — Robert “Beto” O’Rourke and Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.) — pandering to audiences about how America was “founded on racism” and still exists under laws that essentially codify racism and inequality, though there are constitutional amendments and a host of civil rights laws that say otherwise.
“What you’re watching everyday is a systematic effort by the Left to undermine the institutions that hold this country together,” Carlson told viewers. “Chief among those institutions, in this and all societies, throughout time, is law enforcement. Our justice system.”
Carlson then played several clips of 2020 Democratic presidential contenders all of whom claimed to audiences that police in America are racist and that they specifically single out and target black men — despite there being no evidence to prove the allegations.
“Dividing us? Oh yes, they’re dividing us,” Carlson said, noting that their claims are “disgusting.”
