Supplements to strengthen bladder?

  • I have been staying at this facility that is quite a ways from home to complete a trade program. I dislike many of the meals and refuse if the main course is meat if it is served on Friday so to sustain myself I have been drinking lots of milk. My issue with this that I have to take trips to the bathroom far too often. I am gonna try to drink less milk or at least space out my consumption of it but I'd like to know if there are any natural supplements that could help strengthen my bladder so that this is less of a concern.
I recant many opinions on the crisis in the Church and moral theology that I have espoused on here from at least 2019-2021 don't take my postings from that time as well as 2022 possibly too seriously.

But too much dairy is your problem.  Cut out the dairy/milk and drink protein/meal replacement shakes instead.

I should probably bring some plant based stuff and just mix it with water. Know any relatively cheap pre packaged plant based replacement shakes? Does dairy also affect the bladder more than water?

Yes.  Dairy has all the crap hormones in it, so too much and it can affect the urinary tract.

Ah. The stuff I had was most likely powdered as well given I got it from a dispenser and it had an odd aftertaste. Is powdered any different healthwise?

  • Powered milk is going to be very processed with all kinds of chemicals in it.  I'd stay away from it.  Can't you eat protein/granola bars instead?  Those are ok for Fridays.

    .

Holding it too long is injurious to your kidneys. When you get a call from nature, you need to answer it. Please come up with a different solution to this problem.

  • The bladder is a vessel which holds urine.  It does have some elasticity (and there are medical conditions which reduce its elasticity), but when it’s full it is full and needs to be emptied.  Drinking large amounts of fluids will cause it to fill up quicker, not drinking enough fluids will cause other problems.

I’ve been connected with the dairy industry from when I five until I retired from a dairy farm in 2017 at age 65, with a degree in Animal Science and course work in Food Science.  Milk is not the problem.  All products of lactation will contain some hormones (rather the way God designed things), which are completely natural.  A very few people might have an allergic reaction to dairy products (usually the lactose ((sugar)) in milk, not the hormones).  Powdered milk is milk that has the fluid evaporated (also a natural process), it is a mystery to me as to what might constitute the “all kinds of chemicals in it”.

Here is an article on “Overactive Bladders” and some dietary approaches for dealing with the problem.  I note that milk is not listed as a cause of OAB: https://www.healthline.com/health/overactive-bladder/overactive-bladder-diet#oab-and-diet

It is possible that drinking large amounts of fluids (of any kind), perhaps with not a lot of fiber in the diet, may be the problem.  As others have suggested, protein / granola bars and fruits would be good additions to the diet.

Can you tell me about raw milk vs pasteurised milk? I've have people tell me you can't drink raw milk, that your body can't process it.

Usually there are those who argue that pasteurization is evil and that bacteria are fake :laugh2:.

Pasteurization of milk became routine in the U.S. in the early 20th century, mostly to stem the spread of tuberculosis, which could be transmitted to humans if the cow was infected.  Brucellosis (bangs disease, undulant fever in humans) was another disease that could be transmitted to humans who drank raw milk from infected cows.  Both diseases are largely eradicated in developed countries.

There is nothing wrong with raw milk, humans have been drinking it for thousands of years, I was raised on raw milk from our own cows.  At the time cows were typically vaccinated against brucellosis and we received an annual mailer to send in a milk sample for testing for tuberculosis.  Milk is a natural media for bacteria and if strict sanitation is not maintained someone could become ill from "dirty" milk, but the effect is usually mild.  I imagine that farm kids raised around livestock and drinking raw milk developed a certain immunity.

Then, there are those who argue that pasteurization destroys the "good stuff" in milk, denatures the proteins, and etc., for which there is no scientific evidence.  Pasteurization does destroy the heat soluble vitamins in milk (A and D), of which milk isn't a large source anyway.  Most commercial bottlers add those vitamins back in.

The primary advantage of pasteurization today is that it extends the shelf life of milk by removing any bacteria which would cause the milk to become rancid.  I hope I helped answer your questions.

I must also say that the spawn of the devil has quite a convincing case for pasteurization.

    Quote
Finally, I must I think mention an objection to pasteurization which I put into the serious category though some of your Lordships may feel it hardly merits this treatment. I refer to that type of person who knows from personal experience and observation that the earth is flat and not round, and who say such things as: "What nature produces is good enough for me, so better not tamper with it; it might be dangerous; I like my milk raw."
The classic, if you disagree you must think that the earth is flat - why, yes, how did you know?

Jokes aside, if pasteurization stopped tuberculosis it was completely warranted.

However, see how someone responded to Rotschild: I must confess that all my prejudices are thoroughly against pasteurization. It must be better to produce clean milk rather than to kill germs in dirty milk.
