I've heard before that honey has health benefits. Frankly, while I understand that when dealing with natural "remedies" one must be very careful, I would still rather take some natural remedy someone else has been using, than take some kind of chemical-filled drug with a million side effects.
Still, since mankind has become so ignorant in this field, we're left with a minefield of remedies, not knowing which are really effective, and how they should be used (or not be used).
I think the gravest danger with herbal remedies is NOT that they're bad or dangerous in themselves. It's the modern-day ignorance of the herbs or ingredients and their myriad of effects that say, your ancient Chinese "pharmacist" probably could rattle off from memory, that renders this field of remedies so dangerous to those who tread in it. If we know one or two effects of something, they probably knew 40. But it's the other 38 of them that we DON'T know, that will make the remedies of today potentially dangerous.
It's a crying shame that serious study couldn't be done on these things, to pinpoint ALL of the effects of each individual herb, both on living beings, and on other herbs. If we had knowledge of the whole truth about them, we could rediscover the many remedies I'm sure that exist that would be harmless and helpful. Sadly, I doubt this will ever be done, short of the return of humankind to "Christian civilization".
But I guess each of us has to decide what remedies are worth/safe enough to be trying. This one looks pretty harmless (eg, no unknown ingredients) so maybe this one is one of the safer ones to use?
