  • WATER

#1.   75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2.    In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3.    Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4.    One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
    Washington study.

#5.     Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6.    Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7.    A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.   Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
    you should drink every day?

    COKE

#1.     In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2.     You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3.    To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
    stains from vitreous china.

#4..     To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5.     To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
    away the corrosion.

#6.    To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7.     To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8...    To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
    windshield.

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1.     the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2.   To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for hi ghl y corrosive materials.

#3.     The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

    That was awesome Matthew.

I know that children cannot know when they are dehydrated.  Refusing to drink water is a sign of hypothermia.  Good water drinking habits just can't be underestimated.

  • I am going to try the T- bone steak experiment and will report the results later this week. Was the bone gone also or just the meat?

  • Should the steak be cooked in some way or put in the coke raw?

  • "75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated."

Yep, I fall under this category. I drink maybe 2 cups of water a day. When I went to take a blood test a month ago, the blood stopped coming into the needle because it was so thick. The nurse said she believed I was dehydrated. Then again, the blood could have also stopped because I have anemia.

"Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers."

Hmmmm. That's good to know. Will see if increasing my water intake can alleviate my back and joint pain a bit.

"Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water

Great to know! I'll relay this info to my mother who had colon cancer.

Wow, the info. about coke is really scary!! Good news is I stopped coke for Lent. Bad news is I've gained weight drinking several cups of orange juice a day. But knowing all this info about coke I am more determined to drink much less of it after Lent. Maybe I'll limit myself to 1 a day instead of the 4-5 a day I was drinking. Or maybe to 1 every 2 days.

Ha, me too.  Maybe after this I will give it up entirely.  There are lots of other drinks besides just water and soft drinks -- there are fruit juices, those tasty flavored waters, milk and chocolate milk, and the ever-underrated Lipton's Iced Tea.  Why drink Coke, or, as I usually do, Dr. Pepper, besides that it's really tasty?

I guess that I just answered my own question.  Whoever came up with Dr. Pepper is an evil genius.  It decimates Coke.

Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

I too have hread that coke is very harmful and that we had better stop drinking coka.
But the number of written articles on harmfullness of smoking is perhaps 20 time greater. yet our faith allows smoking.
Thank to our religion I am no longer bound to see if sth is harmful or not before eating it. As a catholic I can eat everything even if it is full of chlosterole, salt and yes even coke. No obligation to wash my hands before eating too.

  • um..I usually try to wash my hands, its a gerenal cleanliness thing.as we  are past Pharisee rule keeping, dont worry much about the rules per se......also, common sense to avoid or cut down on harmful things like food and beverage.....after all, if  I am home, alone, and without a TV or computer, is it then sinful to drink too much?

  • A typical premium California Chardonnay has a total acidity of 0.58 grams per 100 mL (0.58%) and a pH of 3.4.

This is about the same pH as Dr. Pepper and Diet Coke.

It would be comparatively easy for us to be holy if only we could always see the character of our neighbours either in soft shade or with the kindly deceits of moonlight upon them. Of course, we are not to grow blind to evil
