  • Are they any shade plants that grow in containers that are edible? I found a list of plants that can grow in shade but they are only decorative.

  • mint doesn't require much sun.  You might want to get a grow light.

  • I wonder if it's possible to grow a mini-dwarf pauw pauw tree?

I've seen tiny citrus trees that were really neat looking.

  • I have some shade garden beds.  Really frustrating.  The tree managed to grow over them.  I won't cut the branches because I like the tree a lot, and I'm a little burned out on gardening anyway.

    So...

In the shade, I often grow carrots and potatoes.  Potatoes, especially, beause it is cooler in the shade, and they do better when it is cooler.  Mint, of course.  I have a nice sturdy Rosemary bush growing in the shade.

In regards to wild foods, I've had lots of poke salat pop up in my shade beds.  So you can always try growing that if you're brave enough.  Just remember to boil it three times or you'll die.

  • Herbs! Lots of herbs. Also, you may want to try sprouts. They are super easy to grow, and very tasty. A great way to get fresh produce without a garden.

Not in the shade. They require full sun to set fruit.

Yeh they're so good! What's your favorite kind?

I opted out of buying a sprouter. I just put them in a jar of any size, put cheesecloth over the top and screw the lid on. It makes it easy to drain, and you can use any size of jar you want!

  • I wonder how spinach would do inside. It is shade tolerant and it doesn't like a lot of heat. It might be worth a shot.

  • Clover and broccoli!
Do you know of an inexpensive source for seeds? I buy them from the health food store but they are high almost $5 for a small bag.

I can keep them outside but it's a shaded area. Unfortunately my cats attack any plant on the inside. I had to bring in our tomato and herb plants in the other night due to the cold, and I had to lock them all in the bathroom. I was thinking is is so when someone will stop by!

  • walmart sold ten cent packets.  You need some grow lights for seedlings and a more powerful one for full grown plants.  However, be careful as buying such equipment rouses suspicions.
