We live in a big German area too; however, for every Catholic church there are three lutheran ones.

Five acres...I'd love five acres and I'd put a big fence up all around it so I'd never have to look at another neighbor again.

I would take much less and do the same. I am so tired of noise and people. Would love to look at the sky and see the stars and not just artificial lights

:laugh2: at the fence because a few of our neighbors do just that. They are a good acre or more from the next house, but still have a privacy fence. It's not keeping noise out as there isn't much of that out here, but it does let them burn their garbage (which isn't allowed) without anyone really knowing what they're up to.   Who knows what else is hiding behind the fence.

Our fence is just to keep the roaming dogs out of the yard.

What I liked in Germany was the Gluhwein, the hot wine you can walk around and drink in the streets at Christmas

This sounds like something they do here. Annually, the downtown businesses all set up outside in the evening (usually about the second week of December) and serve wassel. It's not wine, but more like punch. It's served warm and can be alcoholic or not. You walk from store to store tasting the wassel and then vote for your favorite.

Speaking of wurst - that reminds me that I haven't had a decent liverwurst sandwich since I left home.

will have to pass on that one! Liver is to me not a dish best served cold-or hot...My dad likes liver, he actually likes more Germanic foods then I....
