  • What are your favorite remedies for arthritis?

From what I've read, it seems it would take a lifetime to fairly try all the various remedies / diets / exercises etc.  Many sources say that eliminating wheat, dairy, meat, and sugar was all it took to completely cure them, but they say it might take months to notice any change, and that it doesn't solve the problem in every case.

I've had great success with acupuncture, and mild success with egg-membrane supplements.  Acupuncture could be expensive to keep up because the effect is usually only temporary.

    This is from another thread:

    Quote from: PerEvangelicaDicta
Arthritis is from inflammation which = diminished immune system.  I'm not exaggerating when I say it's gone now, and that's after I was told I'd have to have both knees replaced, and suffered pretty much with neck/disk issues.
After much research , here's what I did.
In addition to a good multi vitamin, I take omega 3 or cod liver oil, krill oil, and flaxseed oil and I began supplementing w/ minerals.  All of that helped significantly, but I still had some pain.  So I began taking turmeric and high doses of ascorbic acid vit C and have had tremendous results!

How much of each supplement would you recommend?

What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • excellent thread idea MC, considering how widespread is arthritis, affecting both sexes.
Acupuncture helped you enormously - I would not have considered that.  Thank you for sharing.  I look forward to other's successful remedies also.

Regarding my success in pain management, at the time I was diagnosed with arthritis I was fairly young (30's)and the specialist was surprised.  I now attribute it directly to my crazy intake of coke (coca cola that is  :smoke-pot:)  I consumed large quantities throughout the day for many years.   The rest of my diet wasn't too bad, but I immediately changed my diet at that time, although I still kept drinking coke (didn't yet know the connection re sugar phosphorus, etc)

Arthritis - diminished immune system causing inflammation.  Nutrition is key. So any supplementation should be in addition to eating only nutritious food.  Be ruthless about it!

My diet:  when possible, raw milk and raw milk product, grass fed meat when possible, if not then organic. Also pastured eggs from local farms, the requisite fresh vegetables (heirloom when possible - we just started a large garden w/heirloom seeds) and we stopped eating all processed food - which most fast food and supermarket food.
Because of looming gallbladder issues, I began drinking  organic unfiltered apple juice w/ tablespoon of Braggs ACV each day.  That isse went away, but I continue to have each day.
Multi vitamin, fish oil, coq10, vit e supplements.
This was all about 12 years ago.  My health soared and arthritis improved greatly.
About 2 years ago, probably just due to increased activity level and stress, the pain increased in knees and neck.  It escalated so that I had to address.

I finally stopped drinking all soda.  Can you believe I was so careful about everything else, yet continued drinking this poison?
I added minerals via more multi, krill oil, B vitamins and chromium (adrenal), also  homemade kefir w/flaxseed oil for gut and immune support.  That definitely helped, but not enough.  Luckily there are  several smart people at my church who share health remedies and one of them told me about high dose vit C.  I researched thoroughly - Linus Pauling, etc etc.   and was comfortable attempting, since there is such little downside..   Here's a quick paragraph:

    Quote
    Dosage
Oral vitamin C can be taken to what is called bowel tolerance. When the body's maximum saturation tolerance is reached, diarrhea results. The aim is to adjust the oral intake to a point just below the diarrhea point. The following general recommendations are summarized from the Linus Pauling Institute's protocol for oral vitamin C ingestion.

Large amounts of vitamin C should be taken in divided doses throughout the day.
Begin with 1 or 2 grams (equivalent to '/»to Vi teaspoonful) of pure crystalline vitamin C dissolved in juice or water.
Increase the intake by 1 or 2 grams on each subsequent day until a laxative action develops. At this point, reduce the dose by 1 or 2 grams below this bowel tolerance level and maintain that dose thereafter.

Crystalline vitamin C can be obtained at reasonable cost as ascorbic acid or as the calcium and sodium ascorbate salts. See the appendix for a source of reliable, inexpensive supply.

It is important that vitamin C therapy be consistent and be maintained indefinitely, once the dose level is decided upon. If there should be any need to discontinue the therapy, it is important to decrease the dosage gradually to avoid the rebound effect.

There are so many other reports and testimonies about it.
Check out some recent Natural Society articles.  Amazing.   http://naturalsociety.com/achieve-results-iv-mega-dose-vitamin-c-orally/
Also Curezone.  Just search "Curezone high dose vitamin C".  Lots of references and other info there.

I can attest that within a few days I felt much better, and now -  a few months later- pretty much pain free.
I have to say I also added tumeric recently due to this study:  http://naturalsociety.com/turmeric-vs-ibuprofen-knee-pain-study/
I believe this with the vit c is what worked for me.

    Two final things:

    1.  Be sure your vitamin C is easily absorbable, either in powder form (it's bitter - mix w/AJ) or a capsule.   Also, be sure all your supplements are from good sources.  Lots of poorly made ones out there, so caveat emptor.

    2.  This should be #1!   Every good thing comes from the Father and I thank Him for helping me, even though I did not ask Him about this issue in specific prayer.  Suffering is a great blessing after all, right?  I presume He now wants me to serve Him more actively with my renewed health, and He's thrown 2 projects in my path that I could not have done had I still been in pain.

Many blessings to the good people of Cathinfo.  You are all very special, and I don't mean in the little yellow school bus kinda way!   :dancing-banana:
    Well, maybe a few...

  • Thank you for all that good info!

I had a condition on the bottom of my feet.  Dry, cracked, bleeding and skin coming off.  I have a book called the Health Finder and it told me to get off of red meat, glutens and sugars.  Now this book is of the older version.  Then my doctor wanted my triglycerides to be lowered. I was at 600 and now I am at 188.  My doctors told me little of anything.  Just fish oil.  Well, the gel tabs did absolutely nothing.  When I was on Tricor for 5 weeks  the triglycerides came down but my brain was so fuzzy, I did not trust myself to drive a car.  I went on the web sites and found what Tricor was doing.  It was taking away my libido(I am a lady) and everything that was a water soluables was being stripped out of my system.  It gave me a list of all the things to put back in me.  Well, that is no good if I keep taking Tricor.  So, I got off of it and double on walking and doubled on my rosaries as I walked at my Rec Center and I got off glutens the best I could and off red meat the best I could and sugar was easy for me.  Went back to my doctor and my blood was at 158!  I said , Hot Dog, I am out of here!  Doc said, but you must continue taking the drug.  I said, Oh, I forgot to tell you, I stopped taking it.  Fish oil in the bottle and 1 Tab one hour before or after a meal and I had the list of all the Sprouts told me to do. I said, so these I had to learn on my own, not by any doctor and I am out of here!

ANd my libido came back even better and my head is not fuzzy and my feet are healed!!  God is Good!

  • bravo Songbird.  That took courage and He gave you the wisdom to find the answers.

Coincidentally I saw a forum discussion about cracked skin on the foot.  Exercise is supposed to help, so your walking (and rosaries) was a good instinctive move.  I had copied the following for a family member and had it handy:

    Quote
diets which fail to provide adequate zinc and essential omega-3 fatty acids may contribute to cracked heels and other dry skin problems. Zinc rich foods include oysters, organic chicken, crab, kidney beans, yogurt, and brown rice.  Consuming one Zinc Lozenge each day is an excellent way to maintain an optimal level of zinc.
Omega-3 fatty acids are largely found in cold water fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, and it can also be found in healthy oils such as flaxseed.  Taking two capsules of Omega 3 Plus provides a quantifiable amount of these essential fatty acids on a daily basis.
Other important vitamins and minerals include:
*Vitamin E, which is found in green vegetables, wheat germ, whole-grain products and nuts.
*Calcium, which can be found in organic raw certified cow or goat milk, organic cheeses, yogurt, dark leafy vegetables and broccoli.  Most people get plenty of calcium but fail to get the essential mineral magnesium which is necessary for proper absorption and utilization of calcium.
*Iron, which is found in certified organic meats, including beef, chicken and fish, as well as organic free range eggs, vegetables and beans.  Triple Mag provides a therapeutic dose of magnesium in a highly absorbable form.

I started taking magnesium for a few other issues and it's really good.  One of those supplements you can tell make a difference.  I do not take the calcium/mag combo pills tho - the mag is too low/calcium too high.

  • I salute those who work at Sprouts in the supplement dept.  They are so helpful.  I can ask any question and they answer it.

Here is a question that disturbs me.  I had to take Predisone and 5lbs went on me and I just can't get it off.  My eye sight went blurry and I am doing what I can in that dept. but why i can not get that 5 lbs off is beyond me.  I was hoping the summer here in AZ would help me to sweat it out.  I am being patient, I am age 61, still young.

  • If you have a juicer, do this.........

Juice 50% grapefruit (peel it but leave as much of the white pith on as you can) and 50% pineapple (with the skin on discard the leaf). Wash before juicing - you can soak in the sink using cold water for 15 min or so, pour in some cider vinegar and a spoonful or two of salt will remove pesticides.

Depending on how you handle it and how bad your arthritis is, drink a full glass or two the first few days, then increase to 3 or 4 or more glasses a day. If it seems too acidic, feel free to dilute or chase with water.

Depending on the severity of the arthritis, you should experience a welcome and noticeable difference before the first week. The pain should be gone completely or very near completely before the third week - it will seem like the pain went away on it's own, that's the beauty of natural healing - no side effects.

Somehow the acid from the grapefruit combines with the bromelain from the pineapple to heal the effected joints.

Also, some people experience a lot of gas when drinking freshly juiced fruits and vegetables. To eliminate the gas, pour the juice in a blender and blend it for a few seconds and you'll see a lot of foam that forms on top of the juice - simply pour the juice into a cup while using the blender lid to hold back the foam and viola! no gas.

  • Thanks!  I'll have to get myself a juicer.  I used to have one and I loved it, but I couldn't keep up with all the prep and cleaning.  I never used it for arthritis in particular - just for general health.  Looking forward to juicing again!

I sometimes think it's hopeless because I have various minor deformities that I was born with, which seem have been the root of the problem.  But I guess any amount of relief would be good.

  • Did you know that St Alphonsus Liguori is the patron saint of arthritis?

It would be a good idea to pray a Novena to him for those suffering from this malady.

If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

There is a man who's done a series of youtube videos comparing various juicers.  He gives the pro's and con's of various types.  I think they're helpful, because as you mention, the prep & cleaning seems like a lot, so it helps to know which juicers are easiest to use & clean.

You can find his videos here:

For example, here is one where he goes over the different types:

  • I have the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer, I picked it up at Walmart about 10 years ago and it's still working great. Main thing is to get one that has a big opening where you feed in the fruit, otherwise you have to cut everything into really small pieces.

Clean up is a pain but I find it's not so bad if I make a big pitcher, enough to last me the day - just put it in the fridge and it stays pretty fresh. You will lose some of the enzymes (the enzymes do the healing) but for me, it has not been noticeable plus I only have to clean the mess up once a day.

  • Has anybody tried turmeric? I make my own capsules.

I cured my arthritis many years ago by stopping tea. Never touch the stuff now. I do have one real coffee a day (not instant).

Also grow, dry, grind and encapsulate my own bird's eye chilli. Very economical supplements and therapies. I use the cayenne for blood circulation, rather than thinners.

  • I was in such pain from arthritis years ago, till a friend told me about cod liver oil.  Been taking it for for years, and no more pain.  Just be careful not to overdose, read all about it first.
    Please pray for my soul.

Nadir, I just started tumeric a few weeks ago, in concert with some other tweaks I was making as my arthritis improved. Now, no more pain.  Gone.    I also applied it in a poultice to an infection on my finger.  Gone.  I can't recommend tumeric highly enough.  God gave us all we need.

Cayenne is great for sore throat too.  I didn't believe it (people claiming it works within hours) until I tried it a few months ago.  Sure enough, no more sore throat.
But I like it sprinkled on veg juice each morning, with pink salt and horseradish mixed in.   Great for adrenals, blood, immune system, etc.

Interesting about tea.  I didn't know.  I started drinking 'bulletproof' coffee and I must say it is a great recipe for supercharging your brain each morning, utilizing good fat and medium chain triglycerides to provide lots of mental energy for the day.  I'm hooked.

Myrna, CLO is a valuable reminder.  When I started taking krill oil, I really noticed an imrpovement in pain (I think it was the addition of tumeric that eradicated it), but CLO may be more affordable.  I'll look into.  Thank you.
