  • Excessive blood sugar causes insulin resistance; your body deals with the unused blood sugar by producing insulin, which causes your body to convert ALL that blood sugar to fat -- until you have none. Then your blood sugar is in a crashed state, you have various symptoms (weakness, shaking, thirst, etc.), and you're starving hungry. You then eat way more than you otherwise would have.

In the end, you eat too many calories and end up gaining weight. Not a smart plan.

Most foods created by God don't contain lots of simple sugars. There are a some starchy foods, yes, and some complex carbs are OK. But you need plenty of fiber with every gram of sugar you ingest. Apples, good. Apple juice, bad.

Don't listen to the advice of a young Gen Z twentysomething. When I was 20 I could also eat anything I wanted and not get fat. But that all changes when you get older. You can mock, you can brag about how you can "eat anything and not get fat" -- but trust me, your time will come. It's foolish to make fun of a group that you will NECESSARILY join at some point in the future, assuming you don't die a tragic death first.

  • You may like sugar, but please refrain from posting immodestly dressed women on the forums. The video thumbnail has a woman with tight pants and a "top".

I've been fighting this battle with Croix (OP = Croix) for years on and off.  It's become more of a joke by now.  :laugh1:

  • This debate is based on perspective/goals.  If you're living a sedentary lifestyle, then you don't need many carbs and keto/paleo is your best bet.  If you're trying to get in shape and workout 5x a week, with cardio/weights, then you need extra carbs.  Sugar can be a % of those carbs; plain sugar has been used by weightlifters for decades.

Ask any weightlifter who is doing keto.  They will tell you that their cardio stamina dramatically falls, due to low glycogen in the blood.  But they typically don't have problems with lifting weights or losing strength.

On the other spectrum, look at high-endurance athletes who train for marathons or Ironman competitions...their diet is mostly carbs, because they need to replenish the glucose which they burn through due to high-cardio.

Bottomline:  Your diet depends on what your exercise level/goals are.
    -  A keto/low-carb diet can provide muscle gains, but your cardio stamina will be horrible.
    -  A high-carb diet will provide the best cardio/endurance performance, but muscle gains will be smaller.
    -  For sedentary people, a keto/low-carb diet, with mild exercise, will have the best results.

If you don't exercise at all, your body will get used to any diet and your insulin levels will suffer.  Exercise is essential (even a 30 min walk, 4x a week, can have surprising benefits to fat loss).  Choose a diet based on your exercise goals.

  • Matthew fiber is an indigestible antinutrient

You should not be having sugar or fiber

And quite possibly possibly lustful. Wasn't it said that the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah were full of bread? Where there's an abundance of food in nature, reproduction becomes the priority.

Yeah, thanks for quoting the lustful video so it could "live on" in your post, after I moderated the OP. :fryingpan:

There are absolutely 0 high-endurance athletes that are eating a keto/carnivore diet.  Sorry, it's not physically possible.

Also, no one is getting to low levels of fat % without a healthy amount of exercise.  My guess is, that Croix is a high-endurance athlete, which is why he's always talking about carbs.  For his situation, his advice is correct.

What he fails to realize is that most people are not exercising at his level.  So high-carbs aren't good for the 'avg joe'.

High carbs, especially high refined sugar amounts, aren’t recommended for anyone despite level of exercise. Higher amounts of “better” carbs may have a place with high endurance athletes as you correctly suggest but refined sugar is good for no one IMO.

  • Refined sugar is a much better alternative (and much less processed) than high fructose corn syrup, which is in everything and which destroys your pancreas.

Plant oils, seed oils, fried foods, pesticides in produce, cereals, MSG, diet drinks, sugar alternatives and preservatives, — these things are far, FAR more damaging to the body than refined sugar.

At least sugar is a natural product, from the cane plant.  It’s been somewhat processed to remove the nutrients but it’s still from nature.  All the things listed above are chemical-based and will slowly kill you.
