  • Arrowhead Mills Organic popcorn - 1/4 cup
Organic virgin coconut oil  - 1 tbsp.
    Sea salt to taste

Heat coconut oil in stainless steel pot on medium, less than one minute
Put popcorn in melted oil and move kernels around so that they are coated
    Place lid on pot
Shake occasionally until you hear kernels beginning to pop
Raise pot off of burner if the kernels are popping quickly (so that they do not burn)

When the popping ceases, remove from heat and salt the warm popped corn.

If the kernels pop very slowly, or do not become "fluffy" when popped, they may either be too cold if you store your popcorn in the refrigerator or too old.

  • Popcorn is my favorite food ever.

Coconut oil and flavacol (specialty salt) are the secrets for a delicious old fashioned theather popcorn.

I eat it almost every night. It is healthy and entertaining.

Lololololo, a glass of wine is another favorite of mine. Should have lived in France. Although Washington state is also a wine friendly place.

    Many thanks, Memento!

Now I have to find where to get Arrowhead Mills Organic popcorn, and Organic virgin coconut oil.

Sea salt I already know where to get.

Raising the pot off the burner when the kernels pop quickly -- maybe that's the missing link!  Because I've had a lot of problems with burning.

  • We use an air popper, not sure if it is any better than other methods but it sure is quick for doing big bowls when you have a family.

I like to make peanut butter topping, sugar and cinnamon, Parmesan, or just butter and salt. Sometimes I add M&MS because I love salty and sweet together.

  • .

There is a festival vendor in my area who takes his equipment to carnivals and local fairs and high school fundraiser events and football games, where his booth is Kettle Corn.

He has 40-gallon kettles made of bronze.  He has propane burners that he sets the kettles on, and throws in a measure of oil, then after it heats up, he pours in a bunch of popcorn kernels and stirs it up with a long wooden paddle.  Then he covers the kettle for a minute and after the popping starts, he opens the kettle and stirs the kernels constantly, while the pile grows higher in the kettle.  Finally he adds some caramel syrup, and keeps stirring, and I think he reduces the heat at some point.

So he goes through a lot of oil.  And he sells a lot of kettle corn.

And I asked him what kind of oil it is, and he said, "Canola oil."

How do you add those other ingredients to the air popper?  Doesn't that make for a messy air popper?  Doesn't it get all clogged and gummed up?

  • I'm sure that Mabel adds things right after she takes the popped corn out of the popper.

s2srea has a recipe for Kettle Corn on p. 13 of this subforum.  I remembered it because I was always going to make it & still haven't gotten around to it!

Peanut butter sauce is made on the stovetop and poured, everything else is sprinkled or poured on and mixed as well.

Sorry. Do you need a demonstration? Hahaha! We love having guests.

My to- make is marshmallow flavored popcorn. I'm waiting until my mom visits, marshmallow topping and popcorn are two of her favorites. I think she will like them together.
