  • I found some good articles on the Omega-3's that I thought I'd share.

As a side note, I found these with the goal of finding benefits of ALA (ALpha-linolenic Acid, which is found in high amounts in flaxseed oil), which apparently is either underrated or has had little research done on. The best I can say for it is that Harvard performed a 10 year study on ALA for 50,000 women and found that it significantly decreased depression in these people, at least according to Wikipedia and a few other websites. I personally am taking some myself, and I think it is helpful for unwanted thoughts and such.

Anyway, here is a list of articles about the different Omega-3's

    http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/questions/omega-3/index.html

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC533861/ <--- that article I thought was particularly helpful since it delves into the science more than the others.

  • by the way, I've been taking flaxseed oil for about three weeks and I have had a TON of energy. I am actually being proactive in my studies for the first time since middleschool. I can handle stress much easier and still have energy to pursue other intellectual activities. I went almost 12 hours of almost nonstop academics the other day and STILL felt like going, only I stopped myself. This just goes to show how incredibly important omega-3 is important to your health and well-being. I am probably energetic by nature so that's why it had that effect on me, but it will most likely have a positive effect on virtually anyone. You will find your old habits, inclinations, and personality coming back to you. Things that no longer interest you as time went by will suddenly become interesting again. You might find yourself picking up old hobbies again, etc.

  • I was using Royal Harvest Flax oil (8 bucks a bottle, will last about a week), but I switched to NOW Certified Organic Flaxseed oil since it seemed like I would get more for my buck. It was about 10 bucks but about 50 percent more flaxseed. I've been told it's good quality as well.

Also, it helps to take it with some minerals like zinc and magnesium, as well as the b vitamins.

I generally take 2 tablespoons a day; one in the morning, one in the evening.

  • Trader Joe's flax oil is cheap and comes in a big bottle.  Though it has been a long time since I bought some, so perhaps things have changed.

  • I don't doubt you, but I didn't have that effect from it myself. Several differences though: I was eating like crap then, I didnt take enough, nor long enough.

    I will try again.

I  *did* have an awesome result from fermented cod/butter oil blend, but it costs a *fortune*
     http://www.greenpasture.org/public/Products/ButterCodLiverBlend/index.cfm

The price is much, but I cannot deny the effects: energy, strength/vigor, mental alertness, sound restful sleep.

The mental acuity was the most profound and surprising. I was so 'sharp' and awake through the day!

  • It's interesting to note that America seemed to go downhill around the time that fats in general were being shunned from the American diet. It actually began quite early, in the 1910's. "Low fat diet" this, "Low fat diet" that.

Here's an article about saturated fats which I think might be interesting to read.

  • I got some, another brand a few days ago. The first two days I took 2 tablespoons in the morning, but it made me sleepy to the point of needing to lay down or nap for an hour or so. I guess because my body can't process the fat quickly enough? So I took it last night before going to bed and I had a very sound sleep. I'll do that from now on.

I'll give an update in a week and describe what effects, if any, it's had on me. I haven't noticed anything yet.

Have any of you ever tried L-Tyrosine? I hear that helps boost energy and concentration.

I'll have to try that butter that Luvenalis mentioned.

  • It's not a butter: it's a butter *oil* blended with fermented cod oil.

    :)

Since we're at this supplement discussion, I've got to thank you for your recommendation of the Green Vibrance powder (well, technically you recommended to another user). It's worth what it costs.

Ahh, ok! May have to try that, because the Flaxseed oil hasn't done anything for me so far except give me a good night's sleep.

I  didn't  'poo poo' the Flaxseed discussion since YMMV  (your mileage may vary),  but I  have found ALA (and CLA) most effective 'stacked' with Garlicin and Green Tea extract.  [Although it would have the *opposite* effect of getting any sleep LOL]

'stacking' these is quite effective, much like stacking aspiring, caffeine and ephedra in years' past (but with significant side effects)

For sleep, fermented cod liver oil/butter oil, policosanol  (20mg), DHEA and Melatonin (the latter 2 cannot be taken long term) and elimination of TV, computer screens, cell phone  screens for 2(!) hours prior to sleep.
