  • Reminds me of Noahs ark.  they let a bird/dove fly out.  Came back, but one day the bird came back with a leaf/branch in its beak.

    Birds don't have placentas.

  • Couldn't resist, since I saw the CAPS LOCK controversy on another thread.  :laugh1:
You are being presumpious as usual-- I have a new keyboard that does not have a light indicating the CAPS LOCK is on & did not notice the mistake. :laugh1::laugh2:

  • Weird.  Maybe the "big one" is about to hit.
I noticed this phenomenon about 24 hrs after the biggest storm we have had( & there have been at least a few in the recent past) in the last 30 yrs. It has to have something to do with that.

Rainfall for 2014-2023 averaged about 5 - 8 inches/year, very dry, but last year in our area in Michigan we had about 40 inches. Seems like the sun didn't shine and it rained every day. The birds left to fly south maybe a few weeks earlier than normal but that was about it. Too bad to because they could have continued their smorgasbord on mosquitoes if they would have stuck around another few weeks.

But what pretty much all but disappeared around here were the little critters normally spotted during the day like rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, frogs etc. but the birds were around, they just left early.

How much rain did you guys get over there?

  • The recent rains were the heaviest I have seen here in 30 yrs. I am guessing that we had about 10 inches over a 4 or 5 day period. UPDATE-- this Am I see exactly 1(one) bird.

  • When I first got up there was 1 Dove. In the past 4 hrs I have seen also a crow & another Dove( may have been the same one) for a grand total of 3. The sky is completely empty...

There are almost always a couple of wrens chirping in the trees when I open my bedroom window in AM. I have not heard them since b4 this all started-- they are gone as well.

  • I see that So. Cal is expecting / having more rainstorms.  This could also be a factor.

  • For what it's worth...

We have had rain and snow but still been swamped with flocks of birds EVERYWHERE!

Even our little toddler has been amazed by how many birds have been around and has been pointing to them when we go for rosary walks.

I think that this happens for us every year right before spring.  There are lots or seeds and berries in our area which the migratory birds like to feed on.

  • Update-- there are NO BIRDS OF ANY KIND in the air or on any telephone wire AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE near LAX.

I drove along the beach from El Segundo to Playa Del Rey a couple hrs ago and did not see even 1 Sea Gull where there would normally be hundreds or even a thousand. There are NO wrens or Pigeons anywhere-- 1 or 2 crows maybe.

This is not a normal migration as few birds leave the already temperate climate here in So Cal

Interesting.  Thanks for the update.  I wonder what's going on down there.

  • There’s no bird shortage here!  Just saw a pair of bald eagles over Moosehead Lake yesterday.
