I just heard a radio program interviewing a nutritionist who explained that "Vitamin D" was named before the science of medicine fully understood these things (not that they're fully understood yet but there has been progress).
He said that this thing called "vitamin D" is not a vitamin at all, for the function of vitamins is to AID other essential chemicals in the body's functions. He said that the thing (I forgot the name) that we call "vitamin D" is actually a hormone because it is one of the essential component chemicals the body needs for immune function and health. And it is a marvel of nature that our bodies actually MAKE it in our skin by exposure to natural sunlight.
Therefore, anything like you're saying, that prevents "vitamin D" (an essential hormone) from doing its work is truly dangerous to our health.
