Title: Minnesota Governor Bans Thanksgiving
Post by: SeanJohnson on November 19, 2020, 10:57:23 AM
Minnesotans not to have company in their homes:

Democrat Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, as he announced more coronavirus restrictions Wednesday, urged people not to celebrate Thanksgiving together or to have friends or family come to their homes.”

It is somewhat amazing that so many people do not see this for what it is, rather they see it as a legitimate precaution. I guess yapping about it 24/7 on the news for 10 months straight does the trick.

"Urging" is not the same thing as demanding.  And the reason that they're not demanding it is that they know full well they have not the legal authority to restrict your private behavior in your private domicile.  Covid is a matter of (supposedly) public health, and thus, public officials have the right (or stupidity, depending on their edicts) to regulate public behavior -- i.e., commercial establishments, public events, public spaces, etc.

The second reason is that they will look even more foolish if they try to actually enforce such a ridiculous suggestion.

The best way to deal with all of this is to ignore these communications to the public, from any level of government.  About fifty percent of this effort has to do with "enforcing" a particular atmosphere of obedience, fear, and conformity.  They WANT you to react because they want to enforce it through social norms, since they cannot enforce it on a practical level.  Stop worrying about it and stop conforming. When you go into a commercial establishment with signs blazoned all over about No Mask, No Service, comply in a token way but behave as if there's basically no one around you and that you are unconcerned about self-appointed deputies.  Only conduct your business as you need to in that location.  If your mask falls, etc. (my cloth face covering loosens regularly), just act as if it's normal and not an emergency.

It's very different, obviously, when you're in a home celebrating Thanksgiving. That's why I'm not going anywhere and why I won't be visiting my sister in December.  I refuse to conform to sheer nonsense.  I've never been terrified of illness except any for which I know there is no cure or for which there are known, frequent, and significant after-effects for the majority -- which is not true for Covid.

"Except as specifically permitted in this Executive Order, social gatherings are prohibited," the Walz executive order says. "Social gatherings are groups of individuals, who are not members of the same household, congregated together for a common or coordinated social, community, or leisure purpose—even if social distancing can be maintained. This prohibition includes indoor and outdoor gatherings, planned and spontaneous gatherings, and public and private gatherings."

Because these guidelines all come from United Nations.

Wow!  It’s totally unenforceable.

But if they're looting in Minneapolis again, they'll allow that  ::)

I thought there was a Puritan law on the Federal books that any Governor caught banning Thanksgiving
would suffer the penalty of being hung by the neck until dead?

Scott Jensen @drscottjensen · Nov 19 A midnight confession: Governor Walz new lockdown isn’t about fairness: it’s about saying YES to casinos and professional sports and saying NO to students and high schoolers. BE ALARMED!!! (https://twitter.com/drscottjensen/status/1329302473752915968?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet)

I'll tell you what -- all you A-students, goody-two-shoes better get REAL USED to disobedience of civil authority.

I can see it already, some Catholics have a problem with it, and some are all-too-ready to disobey unjust orders.

The Irish have an unfair advantage here -- we have a history of rebelliousness, feistiness, and a generally choleric nature in our blood.

You need to do things that are AGAINST THE RULES and make a statement. Even if that isn't in your normal personality profile. It's only going to get worse, boys and girls.

Think of it as practice for the coming Catholic Persecution.

If you can't be the only guy without a mask at the grocery store, which is frankly quite easy, how will you EVER summon up the moral and physical courage necessary to withstand the authorities' threats of torture and imprisonment, and keep the Faith itself?
