  • MUST READ about McDonald's

THIS IS A GOOD DECENT MAN WHO TOOK THE TIME TO WRITE THIS.
He signed this statement AND included his contact info!

I'm sure those of you who aren't in the cattle business don't understand the
issues here. But to those of us
whose living depends on the cattle market, selling cattle, raising the best
    beef possible... This is frustrating.
This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink.
The original message is from the Texas Cattle Feeders Association
American cattle producers are very passionate about this.

McDonald's claims that there is not enough beef in the USA to support their
restaurants. Well, we know that is not so... Our opinion is they are looking
to save money at our expense. The sad thing of it is that the people of the
USA are the ones who made McDonald's successful in the first place, but we
are not good enough to provide beef.

We personally are no longer eating at McDonald's, which I am sure does not
make an impact, but if we pass this around maybe there will be an impact
    felt.

All Americans that sell cows at a livestock auction barn had to sign a paper
stating that we do NOT EVER feed our cows any part of another cow. South
Americans are not required to do this as of yet.

McDonald's has announced that they are going to start importing much of
their beef from South America . The problem is that South Americans aren't
under the same regulations as American beef producers, and the regulations
    they have are loosely controlled.

They can spray numerous pesticides on their pastures that have been banned
here at home because of residues found in the beef. They can also use
various hormones and growth regulators that we can't. The American public
needs to be aware of this problem and that they may be putting themselves at
risk from now on by eating at good old McDonald's..

American ranchers raise the highest quality beef in the world and this is
what Americans deserve to eat. Not beef from countries where quality is
loosely controlled. Therefore, I am proposing a boycott of
McDonald's until they see the light.

I'm sorry but everything is not always about the bottom line, and when it
comes to jeopardizing my family's health, that is where I draw the line.

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at
    least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ...
    and those 300 send it to at l east ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ..... and so
on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will
have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you? Acting
    together we can make a

difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on..

Thank you for your message and allowing me an opportunity to respond. This is actually a chain email (urban legend) that misrepresents the situation regarding use of imported beef. I would like to clarify that I did not compose the original message and ask that you not forward it because there are a number of inaccurate statements. I made the mistake of forwarding it to some associates (before I realized it was a chain email) to solicit their feedback on the accuracy because I was skeptical of the statements. In the process, my signature was added to the bottom of page.

        Sincerely,
        David Forrest

  • All fast food restaurants are bad. They use bottom of the barrel
foods. Nothing is safe to dine on. This is why so many people
whom frequent fast food restaurants are many cases sickly, and
    are obease.
When I attended High School in the early 1960's there was no
such a thing as a fast food restaurants.  I remember Family owned
restaurants, each with their unique recipe.
I always believe that the fast food restaurants are part of the
nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr, in degrading society, and dumbing down
people, where they do not think about their health, and well
    being.

  • The sad thing is that the distinction between fast food restaurants and regular restaurants is being blurred more and more.

Unless you are in a special ethnic restaurant or a high-end restaurant that actually has chefs preparing the food, it is most likely that your food came pre-seasoned, frozen in bags, and it just had to be heated to the proper temperature. Companies like SYSCO, et.al., supply these convenience foods to restaurants all over the country.   The profit margin is just too hard to ignore: why hire experienced cooks who can actually MAKE stuff when you can hire people with no experience at all to just reheat?

Thus, the situation described in Roman Catholic 1953's post--family owned restaurants with their own unique recipes--is very rarely the case anymore, even in what you would consider to be a 'mom-and-pop' place.

If we really knew all of the crud that goes into our food--and I'm not even talking about feces!--it would never pass our lips.  (At least feces was food once upon a time!)

We are the only people in all history who have made a regular practice of eating things that aren't food.  No wonder everybody's clamoring for more "healthcare".  Eating actual food IS healthcare, but we can't be bothered.
Thus saith the Lord to you: Fear ye not, and be not dismayed at this multitude: for the battle is not yours, but God's...It shall not be you that shall fight, but only stand with confidence, and you shall see the help of the Lord over you: ...fear ye n

    You said it.

Has anybody tried sardine and vegetable soup?  Anybody want my recipe?  It has everything you need!

Funny story:  Tonight at the I brought my own dinner in: sardine soup with garlic, spinach, oats and some other stuff that most people would look at and say "Ewwww!"

Anyway, I offered Ernie (the cook I was working with) a small bowl of my soup to try it... I left if next to the salad the customer ordered with his soup, and then I put a bowl of halibut chowder in the mic to warm it up for a customer who'd ordered some (we had already turned off the steam table, but don't worry, we DO make it from scratch )...

We sent out the last few orders, a few minutes go by and I hear BEEP!  The mic beeps every 30 or 60 seconds once it's done.  I turn to Ernie and said "Um, didn't you send out that halibut chowder already?"

    "Yeah"

    "OH NO!!!"

When we told the waitress that she'd given the customer sardine soup she nearly had kittens!  She got all worried that the customer would be grossed out, and I was kind of expecting him to be as well.  Guess what - He said it was GOOD! (!!!???!!!)

I guess he's got good taste. :farmer:  It must be the special blend of spices I use.

Anyway, we replaced it for him with the actual halibut chowder and everything was alright. :laugh1:

    Ernie's face turned red though.

  • I'm disappointed Belloc.

Sardines are great for your bones, they'll make you one tough :cop:

I know I know they taste really fishy and a kind of salty, but if you rinse em and toss em in your soup, the fishiness is virtually eliminated.  Combine that with some cayenne pepper, turmeric and italian seasoning and you won't be able to get enough!

  • I try to eat calcium products-milk, cheese, etc for bones, but the way you describe it, sounds like that fishiness is taken out, which is my major issue with sardines....

I must have your recipe.  I try to eat a can of sardines every day, it makes me feel great.  But the plain sardines are getting kind of old.  Please share your recipe!!
