BSE is caused by erroneous farming practice. Cows are not meat eaters, but live on grain and grass.  It's important to know what you're eating!

I am sure that pigs can always find a tasty rodent to eat to satisfy their cravings for fresh meat that is unless a cat or a chicken would grab it first.

We used to raise chickens and would let them out of their coop to free range during the daylight hours. It was amazing how fast those chickens would find and gobble up rats, voles, and mice along with sowbugs, earthworms, and beetle grubs. One hen would cackle and the rest would run to her assistance. That mouse would not stand a chance with a dozen beaks pointed in its direction. Whenever I was digging up my garden patch, those chickens would come to watch me unearth some delicacies for them.

I miss those gals. We raised bantams and Rhode Island Reds. The bantams gave us colored eggs in pretty blue and green hues, while the Rhode Island Reds produced lovely brown eggs.

The way England and most of Europe is Islamisizing itself, I tend to think that nearly the entire population suffers from Mad Cow Disease.
