  • The best natural sunscreen is coconut oil.

  • Yeah, this right here is why I believe they're pushing sunscreen like it's going out of style.  Vitamin D shows very powerful activity against cancer and viruses.  They want people to keep getting cancer.  So, far from preventing cancer, sunscreens have almost certainly contributed to the dramatic increases in cancer rates.
The UV where I live usually hits 13 during the summer on an average day. Even in winter above 7 is normal. Since I work outside I need to consider which is the lesser risk.

Far better off using protective clothing, polaroid sunnies and a broad brim hat. The skin absorbs everything. All those toxic chemicals are not worth playing Russian roulette with.

  • They are all very fair skinned, in the sun all day and no burns.
Wow, you must live somewhere with very weak sun and very low UV. What you describe is an utterly impossible scenario where I live and it would be child abuse to leave your children in the sun all day. That's not to say I recommend sunscreen lotion, I do not.

It seems ironic that the gubmint would "push" sunscreen to reduce the amount of Vitamin D people naturally absorb while at the same time it is "pushing" the ingestion of Vitamin D by allowing it to be added to milk.

Cow's milk naturally contains vitamin D, which is necessary for the absorption of the calcium in the milk.  Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and denatured by the pasteurization process.  Because of this, in the early 20th century retail fluid milk began to be fortified with Vitamin D, as one will notice from reading the label.  This "alteration" required the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), i.e. the gubmint.  In 2016 the FDA approved an increase in the amount of supplemental Vitamin D that can be added to foods: https://www.fda.gov/food/cfsan-constituent-updates/fda-approves-increase-amount-vitamin-d-milk-and-milk-alternatives.

You must not have comprehended what I wrote in Reply #19.  It had been suggested that the use of sunscreen was being promoted because its use would reduce the amount of Vitamin D people absorbed from sunlight and this reduction would lead to an increase in cancer.  No citations were provided for this rather unusual theory.

As I had explained, milk naturally contains Vitamin D (although it is not as significant of a dietary source as fish oil) because it is important in the absorption of calcium, which milk is a significant dietary source of.  The pasteurization process significantly reduces the concentration of fat-soluble vitamins in milk, which includes Vitamin D.  For this and other reasons, in the early 20th century the FDA authorized the addition of supplemental Vitamin D to pasteurized milk.  In 2016 the FDA increased amount of supplemental Vitamin D allowed to be added to milk and other foods.

So, it is were the intention of the gubmint to increase cancer rates by pushing sunscreen use because that would reduce the amount of Vitamin D people receive from sunlight, the FDA would not at the same time authorize the addition of supplemental Vitamin D to dairy products and other foods so that people would receive adequate Vitamin D.  That would be completely contradictory and illogical.

I don’t need to “follow any money”, I just follow common sense and obvious facts.

  • For sunlight to catalyze the production of Vitamin D requires that the skin oils remain on the skin long enough for sun exposure and reabsorption of the oils. Daily showering prevents all of that, so showering daily is sufficient explanation. One need not invoke sunscreen as a major factor in the reduction of Vitamin D levels.
