I heard on rense.com that the ocean floor of the Pacific Ocean is full of dead fishes and marine life. And, parts of the radiation crossing the Pacific has
arrived on some beaches of Northern California. The full effect will hit
the West Coast in a matter of a few months.

I recall reading back in the 1980's in Time Magazine the concerns about the nuclear power plants being built in Japan. And Japan promising it was safe with the attitude "What could possibly go wrong ?"

No, not in any significant way. America is a huge country, the Pacific Ocean is huge and Japan is 7000 miles away. If Americans were at serious risk of being poisoned then Japs would be dropping like flies, since they are much closer to the source.

You could wash the entire reactor into the Pacific and the net additional to radiation would be small compared to the radioactive isotopes already floating around in it.

Use your common sense, if you have any.

As for, "it is going to be a real problem in 3 months", I call BS on that. I will bet you that by April 1st 2014 that there are not 100 cases of severe radiation poisoning or death in mainland America or Canada which can be blamed on radiation leaked from Fukishima.

Millions of people however will continue to be gullible idiots in 2014 and beyond. That is a serious problem for America.

Oh, and for anyone reading a scare story about radiation, the rule of thumb is “it’s not as dangerous as you probably think it is”.

To put radiation exposure in perspective, a dose enough to cause acute radiation sickness (if received within a short enough timespan) – 1 Sv – gives you a ~5% lifetime risk of an induced cancer. Unless you’re Alexander Litvinenko or you’re reading this in between scavenging for food in the radioactive wastelands after World War III, that is simply not a dose you’re going to get from eating regular food, contaminated or not.

By comparison, the general lifetime risk of a fatal cancer is around 23% for men and 19% for women.

As for these releases of radioactivity into the Pacific:

The Fukushima leak of 40 TBq (of what is unclear from that article – but I’m going to assume all nuclides, with Cs-137 being the major one) is LESS than what the UK used to deliberately dump into the Irish Sea EVERY year for 2 decades.

And while that is reckless and irresponsible, Europe is still there and the Danes and Swedes and Irish and New Englanders and Icelandics are not all poisoned from eating radioactive fish.

So what? Normal background radiation is 25 to 75 cpm and you have absolutely no proof that these Geiger-counters are calibrated properly. They require careful maintenance and calibration to be accurate.

Scientists have kids too and families. If there was a serious problem don't you think University Professors and phd students and their families would be fleeing the US wholesale rather than risking a much higher chance of contracting cancer?

Is everyone a slave to the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr or the Jєωs or the Freemasons that they are ready to keep silent and contract cancer? Somehow I doubt that.

Yes, there was a leak. Yes you would not want to live within 10 miles of the reactor in Japan. No, you are not in any increased danger 7000 miles away. Stop wasting your life worrying about this. You will be dead soon enough anyway.

Besides, even if you were right and dangerous levels of radiation were raining down all over America want the heck could society do about it?

The US government could not solve the problem. The US would be contaminated and there would not be any way of cleaning the soil. You would simply have to live with it, take some iodine tablets and hope for the best.

Why worry about stuff you can do absolutely nothing about?

Director....Do you accept that the levels of radiation become less concentrated as you move further way from Fukushima? Approximately by the square of the distance?

This is basic high school maths. Smash a bottle of milk on the floor as hard as you like and most of the milk will be near where the bottle smashed. The further away you are the less milk gets there.

If I fart in an elevator you will be able to smell it. But you cannot smell it in the next state because the gases disperse. Eventually there will be one molecule of my fart gas or zero molecules, right?

So, work out what you think it a dangerous level and calculate what the level would be 50 miles away from Fukushima, then 25 miles away, 5 mile away etc.

If you were in any danger, the Japs would all be dying. Nobody could approach the plant to service the pumps without dying the same day.

And if you cannot perform this simple mathematical calculation then don't ask me to believe your bullshit pseudoscience from Rense.com who has been predicting doom and gloom and Planet X and other bullshit since the website began.

No, you are irrationally spreading panic because you feel it gives meaning and purpose to your otherwise failed life.

There is absolutely no evidence that the Fukushima accident represents a dangerous disaster for Americans or will result in an increase in cancer that will be statistically detectable. If there was the rich, who are smart and would pay money and assets to scientists to prolong their lives would be abandoning the US wholesale.

It is a total nonsense to believe that failures like you and nutters who read rense.com have discovered that a huge amount of radiation is failing over America and cancer is going to shoot up by 200 percent and that scientists have failed to detect this or for some reason decided to remain quiet and let their loved ones get poisoned.

The Department of Health and Human Services has ordered 14 million doses of potassium iodide, the compound that protects the body from radioactive poisoning in the aftermath of severe nuclear accidents, to be delivered before the beginning of February.

The ongoing crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant has prompted concerns that the purchase is connected to the threat posed by radioactive debris washing up on the shores of the west coast or the potential for another natural disaster occurring in Japan which could impact the U.S.

“Governments usually respond to disasters very similarly; first move is to avoid panic,” writes The West Wire. “The Japanese didn’t want to panic the world, or tarnish their honor and now, as a consequence of their reluctance, Japanese citizens and international aid personal find themselves in a horrible state of being.”

ggreg, your analogy is uh, yucky! Hopefully, your bodily emissions are not radioactive. But if they are, we'd still not detect it so far away. Survivors of Chernobyl talk of a weird metallic or electrical taste and smell. IMO, orders of US govt. are either scare tactics or in preparation for some future fαℓѕє fℓαg event. The govt. is doing lots of "defensive," possibly offensive things from smallpox and anthrax vaccines to FEMA camps to stockpiling weapons and ammo. The chance that the iodine is because of a radiation leak in Japan over two years ago is highly unlikely.
