I read this same article except that according to everything that I've learned, whatever caused the potato failure is not what caused the Great Hunger. That was caused because the Brits continued shipping all of Ireland's resources out of Ireland even when the potatoes failed. They wouldn't have starved to death, if the rest of their resources weren't leaving by the shipload even while it was happening.
