Title: Home Remedies
Post by: AMDGJMJ on June 18, 2023, 07:42:47 AM
I thought that it might be nice to have a thread here for everyone to share their favorite home remedies in one location.

Some amazing ones we have discovered:

#1: Superglue works to seal minor head wounds if you can't get to the hospital. (We had this happen with both of our older boys during COVID.). Stop bleeding first and cut back hair if necessary.  Hold wound shut and apply Superglue.  Hold for fifteen seconds or so until dry.  Keep an eye on the wound for the next week to make sure it stays dry until scab falls off.

#2:. For goose-egg sized bumps on the head and other bruises use Arnica gel.  It can take the black out of a bruise within an hour!

#3: If bit by a brown recluse and you can't make it to the hospital (this happened to me once)... Apply hydrogen peroxide 2-3 times a day to the bite and aloe vera throughout the day. (My bite had gotten to the point where I was nauseous and you could see the tell-tale signs of the brown recluse blood infection setting in.  I tried many things but this was the only thing that worked.  It made a difference rather quickly as well.  I wish I had known about it in the beginning.)

Brushing your teeth with baking soda and epsom salt is almost equivalent to getting a teeth cleaning at the dentist.  It polishes teeth, freshens breath, removes stains, and destroys the bad bacteria that cause gingivitis and even can cure it after a few days of normal use.  It slows down (but not stops) the build up of plaque as well but does not remove built on plaque, so the scraping at the dentist may still be necessary on occasion but if you floss regularly it may not be needed at all.

Apple Cider Vinegar mixed in water (1 tsp per 12 oz, but not to exceed 1 tbsp per day) can dissolve kidney stones and cleans the bladder and kidneys.

Same with Dandelions.  Yes the weed everyone hates is actually an effective medicine and made into a tea has great effects on kidneys and bladder.

I think there's another thread on the same topic that has some good ones listed as well and some I never heard of.

Great thread!!

The one thing tried and true at our house is olive oil and garlic for ear infections.  Since trying this we have never had to go to the Dr for ear aches!

Rough chop a clove or 2 of garlic.  Sauté in pan with olive oil over medium heat just until you can start smelling the garlic.  Remove from heat.  Let sit about 10-20 min.  Have the child lay on their side.  Put about 2 drops of oil in the infected ear and lightly massage outer ear lobe to help the oil get into the ear canal.  Have the child remain on their side laying down for 5-10 minutes.  Relief happens quickly and within 12 hours, the infection is usually gone.  I often repeat the treatment 2 or 3 times to make sure the infection is completely gone.

For insomnia from illness, stress, anxiety, or jet lag:

12 oz milk
2 heaping tablespoons honey
(1) 1/2" thick cut of butter

-Heat milk in microwave for 2.5 minutes (skim film across top if present);
-Add butter and honey, and stir until dissolved/melted

I heard that someone did this (over a period of time) and it completely whittled down and destroyed all their teeth, causing them to need fake teeth.

Yes! We've avoided doctors visits and antibiotics with this. Not just for ear infections, either. My wife has used it to treat mastitis and in general we've helped curb infections by taking raw garlic.

I rinse with H202 and coconut oil pulling for my teeth. I had a small cavity in the inside front lower tooth that is no longer sensitive- I can't see anything either. Hoping it's gone. Also mineral rinse to re- mineralize.

My husband was having periods of confusion especially at night. He had had an incident at the chiropractor which I suspect loosened plaque in his carotid and he seemed to have stroke-like symptoms after that. He refused to go to the doctor so I had to figure things out. I started him on K2 ( he already was taking D) to attempt tp move the calcium out of the vessel, Nattokinase to keep the blood thin and Turkey Rhubarb drops which was reported to eliminate stroke symptoms. After 5 months he no longer has these episodes at all. He seems fine, praise God. I can't say for sure that it was the supplements but I'm sure glad I gave them to him.

Also BORAX (20 mule team is the one) for (osteo) arthritis pain and calcium regulation. It works immediately as it has a short half-life so I take itwice a day. It takes at least 50% of the pain away. The dosing is very dilute so you kind of have to know a little bit about it, but Borax tetrachloride is the element as it is found in nature, so the laundry product is a pure mineral.

I also make stinging Nettle tincture for allergies , arthritis, gout - so many things. It is one of the most miraculous plants ever!

I am also trialing methylene blue- I'll let you know how it works ( I am my own guinea pig). It's suppose to be very effective at clearing up brain fog and depression by increasing 02 to the brain and increasing mitochondrial function- this also works fast but is dose dependent and has many contraindications especially if you are on psych pharmaceuticals. So far so good.

How much does she take for mastitis?  Does she spread it on toast?  What a good idea, taking this for breast infections.

Can this work for babies?

She takes a clove or two, like a pill. Just cuts the clove into pieces small enough to be swallowed like a pill, and down the hatch. Usually finds the infection clears up within 24 hours. She is good at catching it early, when she feels it coming on. If it's already developed it may require more garlic or additional interventions.

Definitely. It's ideal for them, even. Have had it work on children as young as 3-6 months. We also mixed breast milk with the oil/garlic infusion when it's for a very small child (haven't done an experiment to compare the infusion with and without breast milk, but it certainly didn't hurt!).

I probably should have mentioned that it shouldn't be done on a daily basis but probably once a week or once every other week or if one gets gingivitis and use until it's gone.  I had gingivitis until I started doing this and do not have it any more.  Now I just do "maintenance" with it.

A couple more...Pine Needle Tea for powerful antioxidants, lowering high blood pressure, removing mild depression, and other uses.

Aloe Vera or Okra (the slimy vegetables) are great for clearing the intestines or colon of extra junk.

I use only a tiny bit of baking soda, only at night. In the morning I use fluouride-free toothpaste -- no baking soda.

I second this. They are a wonderful resource.

Also for those with Long Covid, look into Nattokinese and Serrapeptase. Both are clot busters. Much research on PubMed on microclots in Long Covid.

Wow! I had no clue Borax was edible in diluted amounts!  We use it as any poison and mix it with sugar or peanut butter depending on the type of ant.

I would love to know your recipe for nettle tincture!  Do you have to cook the plant ahead of time of just place in alcohol for a few months?

For tinctures, you don’t want to cook any herbs but only dehydrate them.  Then put in either alcohol (pure grain alcohol = high, high proof) or Apple Cider Vinegar for 6 months.  Mixing the bottle a few times a week at minimum.

Alcohol will bring out the medicinal effects of herbs; ACVinegar will bring out the nutritional effects.

Is there a benefit to tinctures as opposed to nettle tea? Is a tincture more concentrated, and therefore faster acting?

A tincture would be MUCH more concentrated than a tea.  And yes, faster acting.  A tea is good for everyday, health use.  A tincture is typically used by persons who have a health issue, so they need stronger medicine/vitamins.

There is a recipe for Borax dilution to ensure an approximate a 3mg dose. I just dip a wet fingertip in the Borax and take that although I would never recommend doing that unless you are more familiar with it. Boron has a half life of only a few hours so toxicity is rare if you are reasonable about dosing it. I'll look for the Youtube video re: the dilution.

I fill a quart bottle with washed early spring nettle leaves ( older leaves after they seed are too high in oxalates) I pack it moderately tight, and then use at least a 50% Vodka or higher and fill the jar. I cover with a cheesecloth and a lid and let it steep in a cool dark area for 6 weeks, make sure to lightly shake the jar every day or two. At the end of 6 weeks I place a clean cheesecloth in a strainer and pour out the contents, then squeeze whatever liquid is left from the saturated leaves. I put the liquid in dropper bottles and that's it.

Actually an extract is more concentrated and faster acting than even a tincture- but the process is a little more complicated

Borax dilution is a natural remedy that can help alleviate arthritis symptoms.1[/sup] It is recommended to take 1-3 tsp of a dilution daily, adding 2 tsp to half a gallon filtered water.3[/sup] To maximize the benefit of borax for arthritis, it is recommended to drink plenty of water with it. To avoid the risk of side effects, start with less at first to make sure the remedy suits you. One liter of borax is over 4 cups of water, which is a significant dilution of 3X more than of a single cup/glass.1[/sup] Borax can reduce the daily loss of calcium by nearly 50%, which may be the most important factor in causing osteoporosis and tooth decay. Boron is a successful treatment option for arthritis, and in more than 95% of cases, significant improvement was noticed by effectively increasing calcium integration into the cartilage and bone.0[/sup] Borax can also be safely used internally when properly diluted, mixing 1 teaspoon borax with a quart of water.2[/sup]

The key ingredient in Borax is the Boron.

Boron supplements are recommended to displace Fluoride, which is in our tap water.

Fluoride is an aggressive corrosive that can damage our vascular system.  Flouride is directly linked to heart disease.

Pine needles have a substance called Suramin, which was isolated as a drug/ cure for autism that was purposefully taken off the market many years ago. I never read that it had any side effects. I think you can still find it overseas- maybe India. I don't think the pine needle tincture is concentrated enough for the amount of Suramin needed to be thereaputic, but it's worth a try.

I knew pine needles were a good source of vitamin c and helped with scurvy but I didn't know about it helping with autism.  I have made teas with pine needles and raspberry leaves without any side effects.  🥰

Suggestions for keeping swelling down during pregnancy and keeping blood pressure under control? I always wind up on BP meds during pregnancy and I hate it.

Brushing with activated charcoal and oil pulling 9/10 will take care of a sore tooth for both my husband and I.

Activated charcoal for stomach
Bugs or food poisoning.

Peppermint oil for nausea during pregnancy (or any time).

Mullein to help clear the lungs.

Strongly brewed chamomile tea drank before bed for reflux/heartburn.

Apple cider vinegar (diluted with water) daily in the morning for reflux.

Magnesium lotion for better sleep.

Collagen to strengthen joints, strengthen hair and nails and to heal broken bones or joints quickly.

Citrus essential oils to lift your mood. My favorites are grapefruit and lime!

Tea tree oil to dry up cold sores and zits and to cure gingivitis.

Those are the ones that we do regularly that I can think of off the top of my head!

From what I have heard the biggest thing it not overexerting oneself.  Taking naps and putting your feet up in a elevated position higher than your heart can help.

I know people who had pre-eclampsia and were put on almost complete bed rest for the last couple or few months of their pregnancy.

The midwives I used advised Epsom salt baths or increasing magnesium through supplements. Ancient Minerals is an oil that is very well absorbed applied to your skin without some of the gastro disturbance that some magnesium supplements can cause. I hope you can avoid the medication that you don't like.
