Title: Health Insurance co-ops
Post by: Frank on August 01, 2020, 08:39:28 PM
Does anybody have a recommendation for a health insurance co-op?
I've never been part of one, but I hear they are much more affordable than the typical insurance company.

Does this look promising?

We belong to Samaritan ministries.

It is a Christian medical cost sharing organisation that can be used instead of health insurance.

There are other options out there such as Medishare.

Your monthly payment goes directly to another member who has a bill to pay off.
When you go to the doc you get the bill and send it to them and the organisation basically coordinates who is going to send their money to who in order that everyone’s bill are covered.

My family has been with Christian Health Ministries https://www.chministries.org/ (https://www.chministries.org/)  for 5 years. We have the top plan, the most expensive and it is now $516 for two parents and 3 or more children. For anyone with large families notice the "or more" , for if you have 4 to 17 children as trads do, the insurance is an incredible bargain. If I remember correctly they were the biggest medical sharing group and been around a long time.

The great part about these groups is that you can go to whatever doctor or hospital that you want to go to. When they ask you if you have insurance you say no, and they'll negotiate the price since they will be paid without the hassles and delays of dealing with the insurance companies. In almost all cases the doctors send you the bill by mail and you pay it. A few times when the children were taken to the hospital or emergency room for kid injuries (smashed fingers, hernia from getting punched, bit tongue) the hospital did not charge anything.

If we had normal health insurance, the last time we had it, like 5 years ago, it was $2400. Who knows where it is today? Crazy! If we didn't have the Christian Health Ministries option, we would not have insurance.
