  • Maybe doctors in your area are different but, in my neck of the woods, when it comes to flu/pneumonia vaccines, they do not like "no" for an answer

Do you think they are safe for seniors?  My husband's doctor is very pushy.  I told him "no" and he immediately shot back "why not?"  When I asked him to not put pressure, he claimed he wasn't.  If that was so, he would have respected our decision to not get the shots.

Anyone else have any experience with doctors like this?

  • Alexandria, yes. Every time I attend the GP I get asked the same question and they never take a simple refusal at face value. They must dig deeper. They need to know why I refuse.

This not only happens with the GP, but with almost all health "professionals" like physiotherapist, nurse etc etc.

Orders are from on high, and there are perks involved.

Yes, here in the USA, it is the same routine.
    Blood pressure. check
    Lab results. check
Are you taking your Statin prescription faithfully? No? Why?
Up to date on vaccinations?  No? Why?

It is like the medical profession earns Boy Scout badges for each and every vaccination given.
And if the doctor suspects that you fear the needle, then he can always prescribe a Xanax pill for anxiety.
And perhaps Big Pharma gives him a bonus for each Xanax, Statin, and/or calcium channel blocking prescription filled or refilled.
    Lord have mercy.

  • Yes, it's all about brownie points!

Maria, you left out anti-coagulants. Shame on you!

Medical schools are funded by the pharmaceutical companies, so doctors learn what to prescribe. They look more at the computer than the patient and hardly ever examine the patoent or know the right questions to ask

  • Yes, my doctor is constantly looking for scripts to prescribe when I really do not have any symptoms. He carries his tablet everywhere and is lost without it. It is ridiculous.

Obamacare is a license to prescribe drugs.
    Lord have mercy.

  • My doctor agrees with me that as long as everyone else gets a flu shot, we don't need to get one.

Getting a flu shot is "the same" as not getting a flu shot… in Stubbornville.

  • Thank you everyone for your answers!

It is good to know that others have had the same experience.  I'm sure they get some type of bonus the more things they prescribe and the more shots they give.

We've had the same experience with statins.  My husband won't take them, and I refused as well.  Luckily, the last cardiologist my husband went to told him to take fish oil 1000 mg capsules instead.  But this cardiologist was much older.

I have found that the younger doctors and nurses are the most indoctrinated.  The ARNP nurse we had yesterday seemed to take it quite personally when I said we weren't interested in his flu shot.  The way he shot back an accusatory "Why not?!!??!!!" took me by surprise.

Since my husband took sick three years ago, I have learned a lot about doctors and nurses and hospitals and the medical profession and trust very few of them.  It's a money making racket, and the health care profession is turning into assembly line type health care.

In many "managed care" plans, the doctor receives no payment or drastically reduced payment of an already-deeply-discounted fee if he does not administer those "recommended" immunizations.

Almost everything they've prescribed for me to take, once I have gotten it home and read the accompanying information about the medication, I refuse to take it.
The side effects aren't worth the cure.  Besides, we all have to die some day, and I am looking forward to going Home.

In what state do you live?
I am wondering if this paper is now mandatory in the Communist State of California.
